“WOW !!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2012

The title says it all really....WOW... the hotel, even though in the process of being refurbished is absolutely amazing from the minute you pull into the car park. The views across the bay and the harbour are breathtaking, the appearance of the hotel is enchanting and then you start to notice the characteristics and magical touches of a genius at work.

The interior of the hotel is simply stunning and I guarantee you will be drawn in to every nook and cranny, room, library, lounge, open fires, candles, books, antiques, views, artwork, pictures, and when you start to indulge yourself you notice the creative, quirky and artistic touches.

We stayed there with our 5....yes 5 children (13,7,7,6,3 all girls) and the hotel Manager and brilliant reception staff (Kinga in particular) did everything possible to accomodate us.

We were given a room with fantastic views from the side of the hotel across the wonderous Gorge and my daughters sat at the windows for hours captivated watching the wildlife, birds, the scenery and the simple beauty of the river below. The room had a double, 4 singles and a cot as well as en suite bathroom, a couch, flat screen TV on the wall (its a guy thing) and a vanity unit along with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. To be honest it couldnt have been much better for our family.

The hotel was totally accepting of the children and you would possily imagine it to be the other way when you first walk in to a high class establishment but with bowls of sweets all round and fruit bowls, my children thought they were in heaven and they were allowed to be children too.

The restaraunt for breakfast and dinner was serviced by extrememly pleasant staff and the food was fantastic. The evening meals are fine dining but the balance of the portions are totally adequate and whilst there are childrens options (burgers etc) I would urge you to instead have half portions of the main menu as the food is wonderous and my children were eating venison, crab, sea bass, and duck which was a fantastic experience for them as well.

I had better stop raving about this hotel now but I will revert to my opening statment to summarise every aspect of our stay from start to finish ......WOW !!!!

When looking for a hotel in Lynmouth, avoid this one at all costs!! It's well known in the town and the comunity to be of very poor quality and poorly managed, and wish I had listened to the people first. This hotel should be a 2 star and is completely overated!! We checked out of this hotel within 10 minutes of arrival and found a better one for half the price.

I stayed at the Tors Hotel this week and this is only a very short period of time after the Hotel had been reopened after being ' Millerised '.........................Yes !! The famous 'Hall Mark' and ' Signature' of all of the Miller Hotels and establishments had certainly arrived in style.

The current 'Styling Phase' has been limited to the Ground Floor and some of the public circulation areas but what a transformation.

Martin Miller was there personally and was able to interact with the, surprisingly, high number of out of season guests who mostly had all stayed before but under the previous ownership.

The food was very good and, well established Head Chef, Andy Collier, has surpassed himself in producing a very acceptable and interesting new menu style that is produced and presented to a very high standard.

All of the staff are pleasant and the reception continues to be run very smoothly by the efficient ' Kinya' and all under the new manager and raconteur Ron Marks who is undoubtedly an asset to the Miller Group.

The Hotel now boasts an amazing area of decking that will be fully open for late Spring, and well in time for the season and it is envisaged that the current upgrade to the famous woodland walk down into the town will also prove popular and interesting.

It was very nice to see several guests congratulating Martin on his branding of the Hotel and raining compliments over the food and service....................Another Miller Winner !!!

Room Tip: Some rooms are better accessed from the upper car park. Reception will advise upon booking

Myself and my Husband stayed at the Tors Hotel from Friday 2nd March until lunch time Sunday 4th March 2012. The Manager had made sure that the restaurant was kept open Friday evening as we were arriving late. We had a warm welcome by all members of staff working that evening. The standard off food served was second to none and of the highest quality, well presented and some of the best tasting food we have eaten. The selection was wide and varied for all three courses. The views of Lynmouth and the harbour when eating in the restaurant were magnificent. We had a room with spectacular views from the double aspect windows across the Harbour and up the village of Lynton. Breakfast was another culinary feast the full english breakfast made from the highest quality ingredients. Also tasty pastries, toast, cereal etc enough to set you up for a busy day walkin. Which you really need to do with all the calories you have taken in from the scrumptious evening meals and breakfasts. There is a new terrace which has just been constructed over looking the harbour. On a Summers evening you can imagine yourself sipping Pims looking across the Channel. We finished our stay with Sunday Lunch served in the restaurant by the friendly waiting staff over looked by the Manager making sure that all your needs are catered for. Yet again a culinary feast. The only critisism was that we have eaten far too much on this weekend break but once tasted you had to go back for more. Well worth a visit and we will definitley be back.

Our small group have friends could not have stayed in a better hotel for our annual reunion. The bubbly Polish receptionist was very eager to ensure that each of us were allocated rooms that suited our needs - and they all had magnificent views down to Lyunmouth harbour and across the sea to Wales. We all sat together in the spacious lounges for the included afternoon tea before getting ready for dinner in our spacious bedrooms. The dinner menu was small with 3 or 4 choices for each course - but all of it was so good. Lovely fresh ingredients, perfectly presented and so tasty. But 10 out of 10 must go to our waitress Natalia from the Czech republic who served us so efficiently and with such a pleasant smile and manner. She also served us at breakfast with the same friendly enthusiasm.
The hotel has recently changed hands - the previous owners having been there for over 50 years - the new owner who already owns 2 more local hotels, is making some changes to include a balcony to sit on in the summer to take in the panoramic view together with new beds, carpets, and a new kitchen and a library. There is a good size outdoor swimming pool, a new access down the hillside to the harbour. All the staff here that we encountered showed a great love of their job with a desire to ensure that the guests needs are met ot the highest standard.

The Wellcome group.

I stayed at tors last week with my partner very , very surprised at the the standard of service, how smart the staff were compared to my last visit, food still very good but all the staff had an air of confidence, more likely due to the new manager the owners have recruited. WELL DONE WE WILL BE BACK.One small comment the head receptionist appeared to have an off day, no doubt getting used to new improved ways, of new owner and manager

Room Tip: ask for sea view
