“nicely old-fashioned but awful nights”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2011

Nice romantic hotel and fantastic place and view, but all this was spoilt by the terrible nights we spent there because of some fifty years-old mattress, hard as a rock yet rocking at every move and strangely slanted...or was it the floor ? And the bed was too small for middle-aged people. Of course, this was a 'super saver' room (80£ a night) and I accept that a cheaper room cannot be a luxury suite but this is no reason to have sleepless nights. After 3 nights there I was overjoyed to find my home bed again...

Room Tip: Ask for a bed with a 'young' mattress

I've been going to this hotel since I was a child, and I am still going now because it is simply perfect. It may be a little faded in places but it is homely and charming, and the staff could not do more for you. The food is simply exquisite, and sitting looking out over the sea just tops it off. Location is perfect for visiting nearby towns, as well as having Lynmouth and Lynton on your doorstep.

If you don't fancy the food at the Tors, I'd recommend The Village Inn in Lynmouth - very classy food, completely not what I expected from a little pub!

The positives quality of food and stunning views, but this did not compensate for the really tatty dated room and bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever tried to sleep in had backache the next day!
Agree totally with the last review but know the hotel does have loyal customers that return year after year but we will not be returning at any price!

Whilst view and breakfast are very good, our room was very horrid. Had I not paid in advance I would have walked out. Marks on carpet, tiles hanging off bathroom wall. single bed was on a slant (not sure if bed or floor, either made sleep difficult.)
I found someone else shampoo bottle top on floor - so not even vacumed properly. Tatty bedcovers. I asked if room was typical, and was told yes.
At £130 night - poor value.

Lovely hotel. We stayed with both sets of parents and had a wonderful time. The views are amazing. It is all you would expect from a good English hotel

Our 2nd visit to Tors Hotel in a year was even better than the 1st.The food continues to be some of the best out there. We stayed in a balcony room which has the best views available of Lynmouth. If you can pay the little extra for 1 of these rooms,i highly recommend you do so.Staff were excellent, especially the Spanish girl who seems to do everything brilliantly in the hotel. The hotel could do with a bit of sprucing up,but if you can see past that, you won't be disapointed.
