We stayed here for 2 nights this November and its was fantastic. The location of The Rising Sun is right on the beach front where you can walk to everywhere. The hotel has a proper warm and cosy feel, being November in Devon you need this ! The room was large, clean and modern but had an euthentic feel about it. Bathroom was even large enough for the travel cot ! There was plenty of choice for breakfast and we couldnt fault the service. We will definatley be returning next year and recommend you take a visit to lovely Lynmouth and The Rising Sun.

Just one tip is to shop around the net for prices as they seemed to vary. We saved 100 pounds with bookings.com

...... We did eat there and the food was excellent. The place to eat in Lynmouth. We went there on a quiet evening and ad great service off the landlord. He explained they were only serving food in the bar area which was great due to the friendly atmosphere. We had a pleasant time and would recommend.

We stayed as part of a group of 16 - great rooms - great food - nothing too much trouble. Our rooms overlooked the harbour and they also set up the dining room as one big table which suited our group. The bar is small but has a great range of beers. Exmoor Gold on tap

We stayed at the Rising Sun for one night on a weekend away.
The Hotel is lovely, very old (14th century) in a lovely harbour side location.
Our room was a double harbour view room and was clean, spacious and was well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities.
I have noticed that some people have moaned about the sloping corridors and narrow steep stairwells. This is to be expected of an ancient building and I can't understand why they would be so surprised. The bar is a busy well run bar with excellent well kept beer. Luckily we had booked a table as restaurant was full. We ate in the restaurant which is superbly run by Tim. The food is fantastic and worth the money. If you want a more casual atmosphere I would suggest eating in the bar as the restaurant has quite a formal feel about it.
If the weather is kind to you, take your drink outside and sit and watch the world go by in the harbour, its very pleasant. Would definitely stay here again.

Having already eaten a lovely meal at another pub in Lynmouth for a very reasonable price.we decided to have a night cap at the Rising sun hotel. We found it very cramped and crowded though this was to be expected because of its age. I think that going by the look on the face of the man behind the bar as we only ordered drinks we were not at all wanted. and as I looked at the extensive prices in the menu I also would not have wanted to eat there!!!. TWICE THE PRICE THAT WE HAD JUST PAID FOR THE SAME MEAL!! this all served up by a sneer NO THANKYOU

Room Tip: Go to the Village in just along the road much friendlier and half the price

I think the last reviewer must have stopped at a different hotel !! Please don;t be put off by this !

My husand and I had an overight stay in The Rising Sun and we weren't disappointed . By day the bar was buzzing with visitors to Lynemouth as well the Locals. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere
We were not disaapointed with our meal, (the fish was beautiful!) or the waitress service. It is defintely worth while taking the receptionsts advice to book a table when making a reservation as this quite understandably a very popluar restaurant by night.

The landlady and her team were very helpful and attentive - the rooms are modern and clean I would recommend a room with a sea view - will definately recommend to friends and family. Thanks to all at The Rising Sun

Room Tip: Rooms harbourside - with a sea view recommnded

Although we were resident, the restaurant was fully booked. We booked this hotel on the strength of it's reputation for food. We would have like to try it but it was not to be! We asked if we could eat at the bar and was abruptly told no, it was busy (altho there was plenty of space). We waited patiently for a table in the bar but when one came available, the waitress said it was for a resident that had been waiting 20 minutes although we had been waiting 50 minutes and were also resident. She did not take any point and just said she would get her Mum! She contradicted herself by saying you could not reserve a table in the bar but she obviously had done for this person. There was no apology or any attempt at good customer service e.g. I am sorry - can I get you a drink whilst you wait. It seemed that they had our money and did not care about us.

The room was ok but small. The floor sloped which, as an old building is to be expected, but there was no attempt to make the bed level so it meant that we slept on an incline causing me to fall out at least once a night.

On a positive note, the breakfast (and the service at breakfast) was good.

There is plenty of good accommodation in Lynmouth that is half the price - do not waste your money on this place.

Room Tip: Do not choose room 3
