Beautiful location looking out over the sea Lynmouth harbour. Did not stay there, just had lunch in the pub. Good selection of real ales. Great pub food - my wife had her crab sandwich with doorstep sized bread and mt cheddar ploughmans was great too.

Only spent a night here but thought it was a lovely quirky little place, with narrow corridors and stairs and low ceilings. We had a standard, non seaview room but it was light and bright, looking out over the rooftops and had all we needed. We should have booked dinner in the restaurant as they couldn't fit us in (Saturday night) but the food in the bar was excellent - definitely not 'pub grub' (prices to reflect but you get what you pay for). Breakfast too was very good. All in all we thought it good value and a great location. Highly recommend getting the funicular railway from just around the corner up to Lynton and walking the coastal path to the Valley of the Rocks - absolutely amazing scenery, probably as good as anything you will see anywhere in the world if the weather's fine.

We both received a very warm welcome from all the staff at The Rising Sun Hotel which was situated in a delightful pretty seaside village. We were allocated a sea view room which was comfortable and tastefully decorated. The Hotel is full of character as well as some of the locals who thought it a great idea to teach my parter a couple of sea shanties!! My ears are still hurting!! We ate in the restauant and the food was extremely well presented. Breakfast didn't disappoint either. Would we return? oh yes without a doubt. Only thing that wasn't lovely was the UK weather but I suppose you cannot have it all.

This 14th Century inn was amazing. The Rising Sun Inn had so much character. I could not believe how much charm and history it had - it was amazing. The narrow stair case, the crooked floor on the upper level and the low ceilings were just a few features of this charming hotel. Our room was great as well, looking over the port. We loved it. Would stay again if we ever went to England in the future. I would recommend this Inn to any Aussie who is travelling the U.K..

We had been touring Devon without pre-booking hotels. We picked out the Rising Sun from the AA good hotel guide whilst travelling in the car. The food at the hotel has an AA Rosette.

As soon as we see the hotel (possibly better described as an Inn), we liked it. An independent hotel with charm and character. Its position in Lynmouth, overlooking the harbour is wonderful.

We had a room with a window seat overlooking the harbour. The room was quite small and the floor wasn’t level, but that’s the nature of the building and the experience. The room had everything we needed, was clean and well fitted out.

We ate in the restaurant and in the pub. The restaurant food (awarded the AA Rosette) was excellent.

Sometime after our stay, my wife was looking through her book, 1,000 Places To Visit Before You Die and she found the Rising Sun. Amazing! And, another place ticked off.

Room Tip: Harbour view is a must

Very pleasant stay at the Rising sun, we arrived to a very warm welcome and were allowed our room early which was great. The room ( 3) was very small, but adequate, very nicely decorated and our view was great of the harbour. The only down side to our room, was the ensuite was tiny and had no bath. The meal in the evening was fantastic and well recommended even if not staying there.Over all nice, perhaps a little over priced at £100, but then the view and atmosphere was good.

We had been to lynmouth for the day back in 2010 and had lunch in The Rising Sun and thought the food was fantastic! And so decided this year to have a long weekend there and eat every night! So worth it the restaurant is so intimate and cosy the food divine and the sevice just right. Cant wait until next year, the whole resort is an experience in its self, do the cliff walks and walk to waters meet truely memorable for all the right reasons.

Room Tip: Go for room 17 if you like cosy with views and room 12 if you like space.
