“Interestingly reminiscent of my Nanny's house !”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

I instantly felt 'at home' here as it reminded me of visiting my Nanny's house back in the 70s. There is a very clean 'soapy/ mothballs' smell around. Parking is tricky outside of 4pm-noon unless you are happy to leave your keys for the manager to move your car. Otherwise you can get a space and stay between 4pm and noon on the road. Like another reviewer we were a little 'anxious' about hanging our room key and being told its ok to just take it from the board , as surely so could anyone else ? Maybe we are just too suspicious and untrusting these days coming from the city ?
The village and harbour is beautiful and this is a great place to base yourself to see it. The room was very well equipped with tea coffee biscuits toiletries etc despite extremely outdated decor ( not in an Art Deco / retro style, just old but clean and perfectly functional) we were very pleased to have a bath with shower in bathroom, basin within bed room and balcony in Room 2 and could recommend it accordingly. We were kept awake by someone snoring upstairs but cannot blame the hotel for this. The breakfast was superb as was the service we received. Good value at £75 for this double room in peak season.

Room Tip: Room 2 is on first floor and has Bath shower and balcony

A family weekend away. Kids spent hours at the river, pebble beach & crabbing off the harbour wall and caught six crabs in an hour! Very friendly & accommodating village. Live music Saturday night at the Village pub, great food. A really relaxing getaway.

2 night break -Central location and good value for money. Had room at the top 22 I think overlooking the harbour, great views but a bit of a trek lugging bags to get there through all the corridors and flights of stairs but worth it. Room was very nice only thing didnt like was washbasin was in the room as it couldnt be fitted in the bathroom :) No shower though. Old fashioned hotel but clean and ok. Didnt like leaving the room key everytime you left the hotel as the board they were on at the reception flap was on full view and easily accessable to everyone. Breakfasts were excellent, much better than anywhere else we stayed in while travelling through Devon and Cornwall. All in all a very enjoyable stay would have been even nicer had some of the Eastern European staff put more of a smile on there faces! 1st greetings are so important.

The hotel is in a good position just in front of the small harbour. Our room (Jade room) had a good view over the harbour and was smart, clean with a large bed and good bathroom.
The breakfasts had excellent choice. The staff were all very pleasant. The Hotel itself is very old and it is worth looking at the book in the Residents lounge which charts the history.
Lynmouth is a good base for walking over Exmoor for some fine coastal walks.

Having been to this hotel on and off since 1995, I was a slender 19yr old then!....Anyway I digress, I can say that it's still the best in Lynmouth. Service and accommodation is faultless, Staff pleasant and happy,I look forward to our return later this year

We had a family room under the roof, quite large. But it is important to know: there is no shower to rinse the sweat off after hauling the heavy suitcases the 50+ steps up. Theres is an old bath tub, a toilet and a sink. No shower in the bath. The water comes out of two faucets, one for cold and one for hot water, no bucket or anything useful to rinse shampoo off your body/ out of your hair. Everything is really old, but not old in a retro way, just plain old. In fact the house needs a major revamp. Breakfast is ok, dinner we did not try. We did eat in the pub though - the worst burger I ever had. They say it is the same kitchen as the hotel, after hearing that we decided not to try the restaurant (the restaurant was fully boked in the evenng - so maybe it actually is better than the pub). If I ever come to the region again, I would stay somewhere up in Lynton and walk the nice path down to the harbour to have a look.

Not all of Lynmouth is welcoming to children so we were pleasantly surprised by the extremely warm welcome we received at the Bath Hotel. We had a room big enough to comfortably fit a travel cot for our 18 month old baby girl and the considerate staff made sure we had a high chair for her use, in addition to the offer of plastic plates, bowls, cutlery etc.

Mrs P hates baths so the lack of a shower was definitely a negative for her but a very big positive for little Miss P who loves a bath.

Although not the most extravagant place to stay, the room was clean and the bed comfortable.

If we had any constructive advice to give, it would be to upgrade the sausages offered at breakfast. Whilst Mrs P thought the veggie breakfast is very tasty, the quality of the sausage offered with the full English lets down what would otherwise be a jolly good start to the day.
