Excellent choice of cakes although most expensive I have seen on Exmoor. The chiller cabinet with soft drinks was switched off, possibly to save electricity but at premium price for drinks I did want it cold. Problem was the service, no welcome, no please/thank you. When at the end I commented he seemed unhappy behind counter comment was "my head is focused on prices and adding up" I think that's what the electronic till should be for?

After being buffeted by 50mph winds whilst cycling across Exmoor, this little was an oasis of calm, cake and friendly service. It was well worth the stop.

Visitors need to be aware that the building tucked away and not automatically visible.

Situated on the top of Exmoor this is a great place to stop for refreshments. County Gate do some truly epic cakes. The Lemon Drizzle is a huge slab of cake, served with a dollop of clotted cream & a strawberry. God knows how many calories & if I am honest it is big enough to share.
We have sampled a few cakes from here along with the home made soup & pasties, it is all very good. Only a few tables inside & the coffee is really good.
The only thing stopping this getting 5 stars is it is very cold inside, not a problem when its warm out but not comfortable in winter.
