Description: Welcome to Al-Farid Mezz Bar & RestaurantUmar ibn ‘Al-Farid’ was an Arab poet, his poetry is entirely suffic ,and he was esteemed mystic poet of the Arabs. Our head chef has created a thoughtful menu that delights the taste buds. A firm favourite is the mezze, an array of small succulent dishes. The mezze comprised both cold and hot dishes and offers a wealth of colour flavour, texture and aroma. An attribute of Moroccan food is the fact that is healthy as well as tasty and filling.A choice of traditional Moroccan dessert is an offer to complements the meal, expect Baklava a sweet pastry, and Mhallableyh, rice pudding with rose water. Also the drink menu is Moroccan national drink, Arak, which has an aniseed base, and a variety of fruit juices. To finish your meal you cannot miss out on one of our Moroccan coffee, flavoured wit natural cardamom, cinnamon or rose water. No bona fide Moroccan meal complete without smoking an authentic hooka pipe. Each day the water pipes are packed with fresh flavoured tobaccos, choose between apples, strawberry, cherry, rose, grape or fruit cocktail.

I was really surprised to read the bad reviews of this place. We sat on cushions on the floor downstairs (there are tables and chairs upstairs if you prefer.) The menu was really interesting, the food excellent and the service was excellent with the waiter explaining the menu and the special offers to us before we ordered. I felt £100 for three of us was a little expensive but overall I would thoruoghly recomend it and I really enjoyed the novelty of the downstairs room.

Went here recently to celebrate my daughter's graduation and this part of our evening was ruined. We could cope with the two waitresses not knowing their a**e from their elbow, having to ask for plates and asking 4 times to take our drinks order. What we could not cope with was the "freezer centre" style tastleless dips, pastires and meatballs that was their excuse for a "meze". We complained when we asked for the stuffed squid and were told there was none. This was the only interesting dish on the menu.

The worst and most distressing part of the evening was when we asked to speak to the "Manager" who is quite possibly the owner, about having no sea food at all to choose from when we were told we could have anything we wanted. He was rude and aggressive and said "well, havnt you had enough to eat?" and "what do you want me to do about it?". He then went on to say he did have seafood but it was for his customers the next day!. We said the least he could do was offer us a complimentary drink to compensate. He stormed off and returned with a bottle of wine, slammed it down hard on the table and said "Happy Now?". An absolute charmer. Avoid at all costs.

went for the meze; which for 2 is an ideal size order. food was good, service was fine, we ate early so just the owner was cooking & serving

only complaint was the weather was too cold for a sisha (but can;t hold that against the resturant)

Authentic moroccan restaurant in a lovely setting overlooking Exeter Cathedral. This restaurant has an interesting and varied menu, we opted for the Mezze and chose 6 dishes for £24 which was ample for two of us. All dishes were very tasty and the pastries that we shared for dessert were delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed with traditional moroccan style floor cushion seating and music playing. The staff were friendly and attentive. The only negative for me was that the decor is a little shabby and tired looking in places.
Good Value for money, would definitely visit again

If you can get over the feeling of being trapped in a huge fire hazard you'll love this little place. The food is authentic and tasty and the service efficient and friendly. They also have an interesting wine list well match to the cuisine.
