Description: Welcome to Al-Farid Mezz Bar & RestaurantUmar ibn ‘Al-Farid’ was an Arab poet, his poetry is entirely suffic ,and he was esteemed mystic poet of the Arabs. Our head chef has created a thoughtful menu that delights the taste buds. A firm favourite is the mezze, an array of small succulent dishes. The mezze comprised both cold and hot dishes and offers a wealth of colour flavour, texture and aroma. An attribute of Moroccan food is the fact that is healthy as well as tasty and filling.A choice of traditional Moroccan dessert is an offer to complements the meal, expect Baklava a sweet pastry, and Mhallableyh, rice pudding with rose water. Also the drink menu is Moroccan national drink, Arak, which has an aniseed base, and a variety of fruit juices. To finish your meal you cannot miss out on one of our Moroccan coffee, flavoured wit natural cardamom, cinnamon or rose water. No bona fide Moroccan meal complete without smoking an authentic hooka pipe. Each day the water pipes are packed with fresh flavoured tobaccos, choose between apples, strawberry, cherry, rose, grape or fruit cocktail.

went for the meze; which for 2 is an ideal size order. food was good, service was fine, we ate early so just the owner was cooking & serving

only complaint was the weather was too cold for a sisha (but can;t hold that against the resturant)

Authentic moroccan restaurant in a lovely setting overlooking Exeter Cathedral. This restaurant has an interesting and varied menu, we opted for the Mezze and chose 6 dishes for £24 which was ample for two of us. All dishes were very tasty and the pastries that we shared for dessert were delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed with traditional moroccan style floor cushion seating and music playing. The staff were friendly and attentive. The only negative for me was that the decor is a little shabby and tired looking in places.
Good Value for money, would definitely visit again

If you can get over the feeling of being trapped in a huge fire hazard you'll love this little place. The food is authentic and tasty and the service efficient and friendly. They also have an interesting wine list well match to the cuisine.

I cannot think of anything which would cause me to reccoment this restaurant to anyone. I was in a party of 20 people who had booked well in advance and all decided also in advance to order the buffet.
It was cramped in the upstairs restaurant and the manager seemed more focused on selling drinks than promoting the regeonal food. Not one of the dishes was served in a traditional tajin and was all very mass produced and was disguised with spices, not the morrocan I have experienced in Morrocco.
The decor was poor and the music sounded like the gypsy kings.
The building is very old but there was little safety warning of the low beams as you climbed the steep staircase.
I would strongly reccomed a Turkish meze to anyone thinking of booking this place.

It's hard to find somewhere decent to eat in Exeter - you might strike lucky and get to Al Farid on a good night, especially if it's not too crowded. The decor and atmosphere are good, the food rather ordinary.
