Description: The ASK Italian restaurant group boasts an excellent Exeter venue, situated in a stunning period building on the green next to Exeter Cathedral. The ASK Italian restaurant has recently gone through an extensive refurbishment. We've created a restaurant with a distinctive new look inspired by modern Italian design. And with the help of our expert friends, including awarding-winning chef Theo Randall, we've created a menu that features a range of simple, classic Italian food and an all Italian wine list.

“Special 70th gathering spoilt”
Reviewed October 9, 2010

What should have been a very special evening for our friend was totally ruined by terrible problems with additional service charges on drinks, minute portion sizes, really late delivery of food, no oils, dressings or parmesan cheese which is incredible for an italian. We would never step over the threshold again,it was daylight robbery, staff were very friendly and helpful, not their fault at all,all problems are down to meaness and trying to make maximum profit. After everyone complaining compensation was offered but the evening had been totally spolit and we felt very let down.Dont bother is our best advise. We were 40 people from some of the largest employers in exeter and they will have lost massive future business.

“Excellent food (hide your vouchers)”
Reviewed October 8, 2010

Hide your vouchers

Hi we decided to try out the voucher codes web site and have a meal at ASK in Exeter using a "2 pasta, pizza or salads for £10" voucher.

Everything was very attentive and we received our starters and first drink but after we produced our voucher we suddenly noticed a drop off in attentiveness. We presumed it could be because it was getting busier. We noiticed several tables who had come in after us now being served their main courses we got suspicious. This was hightened when we noticed another table who had produce their vouchers, before they ordered anything, having to attract the attention of the waiter. Their main courses also took forever.

After a complaint to the waiter they did provide us with another glass of wine, which helped, but 50 minutes between courses is not good particularly when other tables had come and left in that time.

Keep you vouchers until the end.

Food was excellent !

“Busy buzzing restaurant with atmosphere”
Reviewed August 16, 2010

Friday night, table for 2 without reservation. Quickly greeted by staff and after a short wait shown to a table. Good service, relaxed and friendly. Extensive menu in a very characterful restaurant. Only niggle is there were loads of lightbulbs not working; I know its not a big thing but its all in the detail! Otherwise a good location, good service and a varied interesting menu.

“Tatty”
Reviewed April 18, 2010

Eight of us ate here early evening the middle of last week; we were seated at a table in the rear section which certainly lacks the attraction of the cathedral view of the front rooms.

Food was very average; overcooked and therefore dry garlic bread, an anti-pasto starter for two sharing with 2 prawns, a couple of olives, some mozarella, a couple of lettuce leaves and little else for £12, a seafood risotto with undercooked rice and a strange bitter taste , dry pasta in a spaghetti carbonara! etc.

The place is in serious need of repair and redecoration to the toilets and staircases. Had I visited the toilets first I'd have realised what were were likely to be in for. A restaurant that is content to leave its toilets grubby, have toilet cubilces with broken locks, poor flush mechanisms and watered down liquid soap can't be bothered by what customers think. Staircase bannisters were worn and dirty with extensive chips revealing several layers of paint. Generally tatty all round.

This place will undoubtedly get a lot of trade because of it's location; it was unfortunately a prime example of a restaurant trading on its location. It made me feel angry that tourists would think this is the best the U.K can do.
