Description: Nestled in Exeter's historic Cathedral Yard, ABode Exeter occupies the city's oldest hotel, bringing chic modern style to its formal surroundings. The hotel's easygoing Café, Bar & Grill is an appealing space for laid-back daytime dining, with a smart menu of international classics that makes the most of succulent local produce and ingredients, all fresh and skilfully prepared by the kitchen staff. Even if you simply pop in for a coffee and a slice of chocolate cake, you can expect the finest coffee in town. Later on, live jazz and music creates an upbeat evening mood and during the summer, food is served in the attractive cobbled seating area with striking views of the beautiful cathedral.

We had a most delightful cream tea at this lovely cafe on our first afternoon in Devon. The cafe fronts on the cathedral square, so the view is wonderful. There is outdoor seating, but we chose to sit in the window. All I really need to say is that the scones are fresh baked. I was a bit annoyed because of the delay in serving our tea, only to learn that the scones were still baking. It was a delightful end to our first day in England.

Only 2 other people there at 8pm - should have taken the hint. The food was OK -ish. The service unfriendlyy and slow. The room was dark, dismal, and unwelcoming. Noticed that it was empty most evenings that week.

I don't think I have ever been charged a services charge for 3 drinks before. We bought 3 expensive proseccos as a special treat and when the bill arrived an optional service charge had been 'suggested'. Although the waiter and manager were happy to remove the charge I was somewhat disgruntled by the reply that it was 'company policy' . Mr Caines this is bad company policy and it is tiresome to have to ask for service to be removed.
There are plenty of other café bars and life is too short to visit you again.

We used to come here every month for Sunday lunch and enjoy a delicious Sunday Lunch.

Visited today and they changed how they served the lunch - Instead of a plate of piping hot lunch and trimmings, we were served our meat, potato and Yorkshire puddings on a dirty thick wooden chopping board which was on a silly stand. It was so high we could hardly see each other over the table!! The veg came in two separate side dishes and we had plates, as a result hardly any room on the table. It took the poor waitress three trips to the kitchen to deliver the meal. As a result of the meat on a chopping board and multiple trips to the kitchen - The food was cold. Also hardly any gravy was served.

What used to be a great Sunday lunch has become pretentious and cold - very disappointing.

Not much to say other than very disappointed. We waited 35 minutes for soup and a cheap sliced white bread sandwich to appear on the table (there was no sign of my other half's order either at this point). Was only offered an apology by the waiting staff when I advised them about the poor quality of the food (new menu?) Waiter did offer free drinks as a gesture of goodwill. Food looked far from appertising. Shame as a lovely location for sharing lunch.
