“The Best Full english ever!!”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

My two night stay at Raffles was a joy! Lovely, comfortable room with a neat en-suite, complete with very fluffy towels and welcome, luxury freebie toileteries. Beuatiful victorian house, tastefully furnished with beautiful antiques, a very wrm and homely atmosphere. Richard was very welcoming, kind and hospitable, nothing was too much trouble.

His fabulous full english breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel, - carefully cooked and arranged on the plate, delicious with a side order of unique humour. I avoid wheat and dairy for medical reasons, and Richard very kindly provided soya milk, rye bread and rice cakes for me. I would definately stay here again and would recommend Raffles to anyone needing to stay in Exeter.

I stayed in a single room which was compact but well appointed. There was also the lounge downstairs to sit in, if I had needed a change of scene. The owner was very friendly and attentive. The breakfast banter made for a friendly and relaxed atmosphere - it was not awkward to be eating alone. I was out enjoying Exeter and doing a course, so did not have time to sit in the garden or lounge. I was able to do my homework in the evenings, with the Wi-Fi connection. The only gripe was the smell of pipe/ cigar smoke entering my room a couple of times. Breakfast smell also wafted in but not unpleasantly.

Room Tip: Room 0 is a bigger single than room 1

Booked in for one night and ended up staying for two. We loved the house which is very conveniently located, very comfortable and has the most beautiful garden. The service was great too. Breakfast was delicious - Richard's scrambled eggs are simply the best! - in fact all the breakfast ingredients were high quality and perfectly prepared with great vegetarian options. Our room was very clean and spacious with a great shower. There was lots of useful local information provided and plenty of parking space too. We would recoomend this B and B without hesitation.

Staying at Raffles monthly over 2 years during my studies at the Iron Mill. Richard made me feel very welcome and it felt very much like home from home. The house is warm and comfortable, tastefully decorated with antique and interesting furniture and other items. The rooms follow the same style and the beds extremely comfortable with feather and down pillows. The breakfast is delicious using locally sourced products whenever possible but for me it was the proper bread used and the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. Raffles is very central being a 5 min stroll from the station and town centre and less than that to the Iron Mill. I would highly recommend staying here.

Stayed for one night for business, the room was very clean, with a really comfy bed and a lovely fluffy duvet as well as a good hot power shower. There was a flat screen TV in the room as well as a file with restaurant recommendations and local maps and guides. There is also a lounge downstairs for guests, although as I was only there for a short time I didn't make use of it. I didn't see any other guests but it was mid-week so probably not busy. Plenty of good quality choices at breakfast and friendly staff. I would stay again.

We stayed sadly for just one night at the weekend. We had a lovely room very clean and very well presented. We were allowed to have our dog with us which was fantastic. Breakfast was fabulous, locally sourced and delicious. Lovely service and I would highly recommend staying here.

We stayed 3 nights at Raffles. The owner and staff were very friendly, even though they had a lot of people staying. The owner recommended a couple of good places to eat in the evening which were close by. We had a very nice, newly decorated room and everything was spotless. Breakfasts were very good. Very central but quiet and with the added bonus of off-street parking. A very enjoyable stay.
