“nil points for customer relations”

I chose the Bendene for its convenient location (I'm a regular visitor to Exeter) and was sorely disappointed by the frostiness of the staff (landlady) both at reception and breakfast.
Whatever happened to making a customer feel welcome - it was as if we were doing her a favour. Needless to say, I cut short my stay of 2 nights. On a sligtly more positive note, it was very clean.

The good: staff, breakfast and location.
The bad: groundfloor bedroom 16, VERY noisy, next to front door, below room with creaky floorboards, paperthin walls and bathroom door which does not close.

Just arrived home after a three week UK adventure and want to report how much we enjoyed our stay at The Bendene House which is ideally located with easy access (max 5 min walk) to the Exeter Central station and a 15 min walk to the High Street. Our comfortable ensuite twin overlooked an inviting (weather permitting) pool which mid-summer travellers no doubt will enjoy. While the accommodation, service and hospitality were first-class we did find the breakfast hour somewhat restrictive for the leisure (no rush) traveller.

I stayed here for one night to watch my friend's band in Exeter. It was a lovely little room at the top of the stairs, massive wardrobe, excellent decor. Even one of my friends who saw me back to the hotel after the evening's event said it was a nice hotel!

Breakfast was nice, there is a good selection to choose from.

Owner was helpful with directions. Very good value hotel. Plenty of parking on the street and in the car park just up the road.

Staff was very friendly and helpful; the breakfast was good and plentiful; but the hotel has seen a better day. It is difficult, in one sence, to NOT reccommend the guesthouse, as the location was excellent and others may be able to sleep about anywhere without trouble - as I thought I could. But, truthfully, I got little sleep due to uncomfortable, weak, worn out matresses. As for the pool, perhaps it was the early travel time of year, but you could see the dirt in the deep end from my upper floor room. The location was great though: just a short walk to train stations, High Street, the Cathedral, the Catacombs, or many, many other things to see and do. Still, I would likely not return or recommend this guesthouse to my friends.

This property is your average city centre guest house,I had room 6 a twin room overlooking a car park with a shower room fit for a mouse.Toilet roll holder wedged against my leg,you can picture the scene.Something that did annoy me is the lack of shower gel, 1 sachet for the evening and 1 for the morning which is fine if you want to wash your face only!Your full English breakfast to fill your tum,no way,Sausage is a chipolata, mine was cold, mushrooms no way I got 3 micro sized slices,1 rasher of bacon (small) need I say more.Close to the city centre.

Very nice staff, clean comfortable room, good local breakfast and a swimming pool! Parking is a pain but several spaces around the back if you're in early!
