“"I AM NOT SURE"”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

We did queue but only about 10mins or so. We were quite disappointed on the whole rolls looked ok but we decided on the quiche which fell to bits when put on the plate! one portion
was put in a little basket(nice idea) but then rang out so girl went to kitchen and said 5 mins and would bring to the table. Well 1st potion was cold and then the next potion which i hoped would be hot were cold too. I know i should have gone and said but felt staff were already under pressure. Found it very noisy with chairs being moved in and out at the tables. Dont think i will go again not one of the best for John Lewis used to better.

“Delicious food and drink if you're prepared to queue”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Not the place to go if you're on a car park meter or in a hurry - demand exceeds supply. I visited for morning coffee on Monday 12th November and queued for over 20 minutes. Fortunately there was a place for my elderly Mum to sit down as she would not have managed to stand for that length of time. A noisy place that made chatting difficult. However the food was delicious, the cakes very fresh and the tea and coffee good quality at a fair price. A source of delay was the drink making machines - not enough of them and slow operation to generate each drink. I spoke with staff and they were aware of the issues and said that there were plans to open another cafe within the store to cope with the high demand. The shop has not been open long and is a welcome addition to Exeter's range of shops.

“The Place To Eat”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Not the place to review the shop itself which is so far a bit disappointing. We knew that it was to be a scaled down John Lewis in cramped premises that were a bit too small but the effect I'd dispiriting compared with any of the many other branches we have visited. But the food, inside and out meets the usual standards. Interesting outside space with rooftop views but probably not worth sitting out there much before Easter next year to avoid the rain and cold.

“Pleasant cafe to take a break from shopping.”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

John Lewis is welcome in Exeter and Devon. Not a full blown store but a good selection setting a price and quality standard for the competition. The patisserie and deli meets expectation. Tasty good value food in a gentle civilised environment.
