Description: The Barn Owl in Exeter is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

We had a pleasant evening meal in this pub. The service was good, caring yet not too fussy. We only had main courses: chicken for my husband, salmon for me, both meals were well presented. Good, basic food. Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

We have been going to the THE BARN OWL since it was first built always hoping
things would improve as it is our "local", well last friday was the worst food ever , YUK ! , I ordered scallops , prawns and chirozo risotto -- what a joke. it would seem one scallap was cut up into tiny pieces and the risotto was a complete brown slop, tasted like gravy browning ! The waitress explained that it was bought in ready made. I feel sorry for all the people who stay at The Holiday Inn and have to eat here, does anyone know what they are doing at this place?

Stayed at Holiday Inn for two night and had two evening meals , soup on both nights the same carrot and coriander which was nice and the first evening mustard fishcakes with baby potatoes which were the size of grapes. Second night home made burger topped with cheese and bacon served with £1.00 extra price thick wedges (not that thick ) . The burger was very rubbery and could not cut it with the knife provided. Staff very helpful and surround setting relaxing. Overall small portions and probably would not eat there if local and firm not paying ...

Well it's unfortunate for the adjacent Holiday Inn that the barn owl was poor. I suspect the management has become lazy with the supply of guests from the hotel. First impression count for a lot - there was nobody to greet despite sign to wait for seating - eventually told to sit and someone would come. The cutlery on the table was dirty. The drink came in a filthy glass, which I had to change. Food average but not bad. With a little more attention to detail this could be a good place - disappointing.

Poor Experience. Visited on a Sunday evening after a long drive down. To begin with we might as well have been invisible. Service very slow and food was very poor when it finally arrived, it was all rather cold as though it had been stood around. A half hearted offer was made to warm up our meals 10 minutes after we had started to eat. Not at all a good experience and very overpriced for what was served. We paid and then left. Impression we received was that some of your staff didn't want to be there, Definitely not recommended.
