I recently booked my daughters 6th birthday party at the park on Saturday 20th July and had a total of 10 children in attendance. From the time of booking to confirming numbers the staff were extremely pleasant, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. On the actual day they kindly took everything and kept until we needed it in the party room at 3pm. The children all had a fantastic time and we even took them on the train which they got us on as a party rate. I think what makes it so special and enjoyable is that you can fully enjoy all the parks facilities and that other members of the family that hold membership can enjoy the day also. I would certainly recommend this facility as an ideal childrens party venue. Thanks again for making the day so special for my daughter.

We went on a lovely sunny July day so it should have been at its best! It cost approx £9 each to get in and once inside they advertised a train to get you around at a further £2 per trip. We walked!

There are several greenhouses each with different collections and all are interesting although the plants were nothing special. The general gardens were split into a Mediterranean garden ( quite small with many plants common to UK gardens), a rose garden (all over),Italian garden (fine but again not special) and American garden (trees and some shrubs most not from America), Fernery (ferns just as good in my garden), Hermitage garden (really a summer house). The gardens were tended although there was a distinct lack of signage on plants which seemed strange for a botanical garden. There were paths to walk but the best views were saved for the train ( e.g. alongside the lake).

We walked all round and it did not take long, there were few benches except for picnicking spots so a quiet sit was out of the question, if you did not want to join those eating or sit on the grass.

We looked at the cafe but it had the smell of fried food and the seating area was not particularly good. Quite why they had tables outside without umbrellas in direct sun in 30 degree heat I do not know.

The shop all looked a bit tired.

To be fair there were other things , outdoor and indoor children's play area, museum etc, we chose not to go into.

We were disappointed and it certainly does not compare well with most National Trust gardens.

Beautiful gardens, lovely walks, childrens play areas, train ride, lots to see and do, beautiful little church in the park, nice reasonable priced restaurant, plenty of seating areas....
All in all, a lovely place to picnic and chill out, with or without children, we always enjoy our time spent there...10/10

I took my mum here on weds, very beautiful gardens, we saw work in progress in a few areas, was a little disappointed to see the play area and restaurant area in poor state with several cobwebs! These areas could do with some tlc, we look forward to another visit perhaps restoration is planned? Would be nice to see some information points with some history noted, church was lovely overall really enjoyed our day out, would recommend a visit!

This is a nice place but expensive for what there is to see.
The food is expensive, the train is expensive.
If you you have a sandwich, a cup of tea and a trip on the train it will set you back around £16.
Not cheap for a few hours!
