“To Pay or Not to Pay...”

I've consistently seen people complaining about the entrance fee. It's very simple really. If you are visiting the Cathedral with the intention of worship, then there is no entrance fee. If you are planning on visiting as a tourist, then you will need to pay.
Why should the Church of England foot the bill for the general wear and tear of thousands of visitors that are using it as a free tourist attraction? To the people who complain about the fee - where else could you visit as an attraction nowadays for £5??

Personally I think the Cathedral is a lovely place, especially as the Diocese has become more friendly over the past few years. The Cathedral is an amazing venue for concerts.

“Underrated”

I don't why this isn't higher in the rankings of British cathedrals. Truly superb and in a nice green inner city space.

“stunning”

the cathedral is right in the middle of the city, just behind the high st shops. Nice green space around it to chill with an ice cream. Best memory was going to a wedding there, guests in choir pews whilst tourists were in the main aisles!

“in the heart of the city”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Exeter cathedral is a great place to visit but be warned you pay to go in unless you just wish to go to the shop - however its worth paying for to see the whole place as its really so beautiful inside. there is also accessible from the outside a small cafe which does sell very nice food & a good cup of tea at a reasonable price. its very nice too.
