Rooms are spacious; comfortable and well furnished. Hotel is situated in mature landscaped gardens. Ample car parking although space are narrow. Quality of food varies significantly depending on which chef is on duty. Very friendly bar service especially from Donna, Kristina and Roland. Reception very ably managed by Mary, Freya and Vicky. Room facilities could be improved with TV upgrades and housekeeping could benifit from the occasional vacuum. I have been here for six weeks so I am nearly part of the furniture. Gegenerally a good stay..

I was booked into a single room. When I went in it was clearly not acceptable, because the extractor fan for the kitchen was just outside the window, and emitted a continuous low roar. I asked for a room change, and although it was clear that the hotel was nowhere near full, it was refused. I was not able to change hotels, as I had been booked in by the new centralised government booking system. The fan went off late in the evening, but came on again at 6 a.m. The room was otherwise reasonable, except that there was no wardrobe or cupboard, just two hooks on the wall with coat hangers - OK for one night, but it would have been no good for a longer stay when I would have had two or more suits. Breakfast was reasonable, except that it was apparent that the 'fresh' fruit, in particular the apples, had not been examined for some time. Most were bruised or had even started to rot. The staff were friendly.

Although travelling alone I was upgraded to a double room - quiet and very comfortable. The young lady who checked me in was extremely pleasant and efficient. Good service at breakfast although they were busy with a coach party. Have stayed a number of times and all have been good. Some biscuits in the room would have been nice, but only a minor gripe. Search around on the internet for a good rate that includes breakfast, not all do.

Stayed here for 2 nights in August. Slept like a log, the room was nice and dark and quiet and the bed so comfy! lovely breakfast with a selection of fruit, yoghurts, bread, cheese, ham etc and then a choice of cooked breakfasts. really liked our stay.

Stayed here for a friends wedding. The grounds are lovely, a perfect setting for a wedding. The room was of a good size with a wonderfully large and comfortable bed, the bathroom was also a good size although I think there may have been a problem with the drains as there was an occasional bad smell. The shower was brilliant, really good water pressure - something you don't always manage to get when staying away from home.
Food and service were both excellent.

Very nice hotel, only a mile from town but set back from the road and lovely grounds so that you feel it is more of a countryside setting. Would recommend walking from the hotel into town as it is a lovely stroll through the park and along the river before you reach the Quayside, then the Cathedral is just up the hill 5 minutes from there. Great little craft shops at Quayside, we particularly liked the metal work artist who was selling loads of great things for the garden. Breakfast at the hotel was yummy and we ate dinner in the bar which was also very good. Staff very friendly and lots going on at the hotel which gave it a nice atmosphere.

Only after booking my stay did I find out it was room only.
This hotel is tired, it needs some TLC. A lick of paint would go a long way. Our room was comfy, the bed very good but we were expected to share a shower gel and shampoo. The window frame, painted white, was black with dirt.
I will not be making a return visit to this, 4 star ?, hotel
