“a smart and central place to stay”

an enjoyable place to stay with a nice mixture of comfort , style and convenience for town centre.
Only real gripe is what is charged to park the car overnight.
Breakfast is great and served in a really nice atmosphere.

I attended a business dinner last week for 20 people in a private room ( the lounge terrrace ) It was well organised .The staff friendly and discreet and the food delicoius . I decided to stay overnight and found a comfortable room and a high quality breakfast . Good location . Parking was possible but the car park was pretty full when I arrived at 6pm .10 minutes wak from the Cathedral which was well worth a visit the next morning . I would have used the pool if I had known about it ! I saw it in the brochure when I got home . I will definately go there again. I have stayed in Mercure hotels before and you can sense the subtle French style.

Great hotel, close to station about 10 min walk and right in the centre but just far enough away to avoid the noise. Great breakfast and a good gym and pool. Would definitely stay there again. No other grumbles.

The large reception area makes a good first impression. Our room at the back of the hotel was slightly tired with peeling paint on the windows, but was otherwise clean, and furniture and fittings were in good condition. It was also quiet, and the windows were opening ones which made a pleasant change.

We failed to get better than lukewarm water from the shower, which was disappointing.

Breakfast offered a vast choice of good old "full English" standbys, Continental-style hams and cheeses, patisserie and cereals. The bacon was a little bit greasy and flaccid and the scrambled eggs looked so much like styrofoam they were best avoided, but otherwise it represented good value.

Staff were uniformly welcoming and friendly, from the front desk to the cleaning staff.

If you don't have the time or the inclination (or the budget) to seek out an independent or a B&B, or you're only here for one or two nights, this is a decent hotel in a good location and you could do far worse.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have a slight view of the cathedral, and are quiet.

Last visited about 12 months ago and was left feeling disappointed.
On the latest visit the reception was more welcoming, indeed all staff were excellent, the beds were still comfortable and both room and public areas were very clean. Stayed on a good value package which included an excellent evening meal.
Room was again too hot with no apparent way of cooling apart from leaving a window open allowing one to share the benefits of the late night smokers' conversations. Furniture and fittings still 'tired' in places, missing handles etc.

I have just spent a 2 days in Exeter with my very dear friend and we had a lovely time made even more special thanks to the Mercure. The hotel could not be better positioned for the City Center bars & restaurants,a lovely safe walk even at night. As soon as you enter the foyer there is a lovely feeling of welcome and comfort. The staff were all very polite and helpful. The room considering it was a premier was small but very clean and tidy. The shower room was exceptionally clean and modern with a fantastic walk in shower.Beakfast was well presented and very good full breakfst. Parking is at a cost but cars are safe and parking in the City would cost a lot more overnight and all day.
Well dont Mercure a delightful stay.

Room Tip: Book a premier or deluxe as very basic and small.
