My wife and I dropped in on the Diggers Rest by accident. Had a great meal. It was quite clear that the food was cooked fresh with first class ingredients. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Try the shin of beef, not a spot of fat and I loved the gravy. The local cheeses were also good and particularly liked the fresh fig bread, very unusual but all the better for that.

“Always great”
Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

Have visited 3 or 4 times over the last few weeks usually on a Sat evening for dinner and the welcome, food and atmosphere has always been excellent.

The food is fresh and a great specials board, the dining room is just as it should be - warm, cosy with attentive staff and even when full the service is well paced.

About a 10 min drive from home but well worth it.

Tip - try the homemade pork cracking with pre meal drinks. So yummy - thought one serving will def serve 2.

Enjoy and looking forward to return visit.

“Consistently Hitting The Mark”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

I started visiting The Diggers not long after the current owners took over. It had always been noted for it's good food and the new owners have managed to continue that trend, and move it up to another level.
A recent visit - midweek and we were lucky to get a table - saw me scoffing a beautifully cooked and presented flat iron steak with a mushroom bearnaise sauce, with roast salsify, kale and fries, with a side order of their wonderful onion rings. To start, i had a seafood broth with mussels, seaweed and coconut tempura prawns, again beautifully cooked and presented. My Dad had the steak also, and my Mum had the slow cooked shin of beef, which had no gristle or fat for my Mum to leave, something she's very fussy about.
The current owners appear to work very hard at maintaining a high standard in the pub, and their chef is doing a fantastic job. I'm booked in again later this year for a group meal with friends, and we're all looking forward to our evening as everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals on the first annual meeting that i arranged last year. Keep it up folks!

“An unexpected delight”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

From the outside the Diggers Rest looks a lot like many traditional English pub restaurants and we expected traditional pub grub. Inside the atmosphere is again traditional country pub. Looking at the menu you begin to get a hint of what is in store but it is only when the food arrives at your table that you truly realise that you are in for a special treat. Starter, main course and dessert....some of the best food I have ever eaten. I had to struggle to think of a restaurant that had ever served such good food even though I have travelled quite extensively. When you read the menu, you think, oh...I have had something like that before....but when you taste it....you haven't had anything as good before. So, I have found a lovely traditional country pub/restaurant which provides a meal as good as one could ever hope to eat. I would add that the current Innkeeper who has been there for about three years is the perfect fit. Very nice individual. We do not live that far away, so needless to say, we will be back.

“consistently good”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Have eaten here several times whilst visiting relatives in the area and the food and service standards are consistently good. Sunday roast is a particular favourite and being a gravy fan I asked for extra and this was no trouble. I would say that the main menu needs to be varied more frequently but i accept that specials are always available.
