We went here last night for my husband's birthday and booked a table 3 weeks ago. We arrived to find that they hadn't reserved a table - likely there was a table for 6. An order was taken for drinks but the waitress didn't know what red wines were available. We had to wait ages to be asked for our food order with later arrivals being served first. Then it was over an hour before our food arrived with us having to ask twice where it was. This was obviously an inconvenience to the staff. In addition my husband is a diabetic and when we mentioned this and asked for some bread to stop him getting ill we were treated rudely and again as if it was too much trouble. Finally when we got our food my chicken was red and had to be returned. We didn't bother with dessert as it was already 10pm and just too late for dessert or coffee. All in all a very disappointing evening. The food overall was ok but the service was abominable and rude. We are local and shall not be returning or recommending it to any of our friends.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Inn. I have discussed all the topics you mentioned with the relevant staff. Firstly may I apologise for the confusion regarding your booking which was omitted when transferred onto our table allocation. When it was brought to our attention that a member of your party was diabetic we brought bread to your table immediately, with as I understand it good grace. With regard to the wine, the young lady that served you is relatively new and has yet to receive any formal wine training. She did, I believe, when unable to assist you , act correctly and brought you a wine list. Whilst the error regarding the chicken is most unfortunate we did replace it and there was no charge for either dish. You also received the wine with our compliments by way of recompense for the delay. I apologise that your evening was not to the high standard you should be able to expect. As with most issues of this nature it is usually the method they are dealt with that makes the difference. I feel we did all that could be reasonably expected to make amends. It is a pity you will not be revisiting as we really are very good!

We stayed here for one night, as we were flying from Exeter for a Northern Lights Trip, and we wanted something convenient for the airport. The Blue Ball Inn is very well placed for getting to the airport - it only took us about 10 minutes.

The room was a good size, nicely laid out and decorated, with a good en suite. The staff were very friendly and welcoming - offering to take our bags to our room when we checked in.

We had the contintental breakfast, because we were having lunch at Gidleigh Park, and this is something you have in your room, rather than in the dining room at the pub. The tray was left for us in our room whilst we were out on our flight.

Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed the night because we came to watch the Exeter Chiefs play London Welsh. We started the afternoon with a very tasty lunch in the pub, good job we reserved a table as it got very busy. We then only had a five minute walk to the ground. The rooms were great as they are at the end of pub so they were private and we found the noise from the road not a problem, it's a country road so at night and early morning you had very little traffic passing. The rooms are comfortable, clean and nicely decorated with your own thermostat so you could have the room temp to your satisfaction. We were a party if six and we all enjoyed our stay and would fully recommend it!! Only negative we didn't have breakfast as we thought £10 for a full English was a little on the expensive side, but I am sure it would of been delicious..

These sort of pubs don't seem to be around any more - thatched, open fire, flagstone floors. Stayed overnight before early flight from Exeter airport. Rooms are in an annexe at the side of the pub, warm for this time of year and very comfortable - lovely modern shower room. Ate in pub in the evening next to a welcoming log fire, good food - locally sourced produce and excellent choice of wine. Had a really good evening. Staff friendly and attentive, couldn't have asked for more.

Room Tip: Room 1 which we stayed in, is the nearest to the road and had some early morning traffic noise.

Asked one of the barman the latest time for ordering food and was advised 8.00pm. We finished drinks with friends and tried to order food at 7.45 to be told by another surly barman that all the food had 'run out'. Very unhelpful and no attempt to provide any alternative. We will certainly not be returning. We moved to another local pub restaurant which served excellent food and are writing a very positive review of their much better attitude to customers

Thank you for reviewing The Blue Ball. I am so sorry that you were not served with our usual excellent level of service. I think other reviews would suggest you should expect a high level of service. I have identified the staff on duty that evening and they have been reminded of the level of service expected of them . I did leave a message on your mobile voice mail asking you to contact the Inn. Steve and Sandra our management couple who were on holiday when you visited would welcome your call.

Visiting the Blue Ball with friends for lunch once again, we found a warm welcome from the landlord, our favorite table by the open fire, a very good menu plus a "daily special" all at very sensible prices. The food was, as always, excellent, cooked to order and served on hot plates.
The staff are friendly and the pub has a very nice "olde worlde" atmosphere. There is also a good choice of local beers, we will certainly be visiting again.

Have eaten here several times as a a small family group and like the friendly atmosphere and good food, so when I wanted to book a meal for a group of 20 friends, I chose the Blue Ball as the venue. Met with proprietors Steve and Sandra about a week before and they put together a menu with a good choice for all at a very competitive price. At the end of the evening everyone agreed the food and service and value for money were all excellent. Thanks again.
