Have eaten here several times as a a small family group and like the friendly atmosphere and good food, so when I wanted to book a meal for a group of 20 friends, I chose the Blue Ball as the venue. Met with proprietors Steve and Sandra about a week before and they put together a menu with a good choice for all at a very competitive price. At the end of the evening everyone agreed the food and service and value for money were all excellent. Thanks again.

We have been going to the Blue Ball for quite a few years now, and have seen a few management teams come and go, the present owners have got it spot on, we cant fault the food, or the service, all staff are friendly and welcoming. A lovely real fire, and great atmosphere. I cant understand some of the comments on here regarding the location, as it is a locals village pub, convenient to the M5, Sowton, and Rugby, and not a base for exploring the city centre!

Room Tip: We live locally, so have not had the good fortune to try out the rooms.

6pm, hungry and dreading another visit to the nearby M5 services. We found this lovely pub in our near to the motorway book. What a delightful stopover with a real log fire and range of real ales. The food (scallops for my wife and a homemade beefburger for me) was excellent and the service was friendly and rapid so we were on our way to Cornwall feeling refreshed and determined to return when down this way again.

Had lunch here today. We could not have asked for better service. They catered well for our needs which included a very bored 4year old waiting for his uncle to arrive. Food was lovely. Portions were generous and the setting was very comfortable. Will definately be back and have recommended to friends.

This pub has been here for ages and has gone through various food phases, including one where it attempted to be a very upmarket gastro-pub; if you are charging north of £15 for bangers & mash, then it had better be pretty fantastic...which it wasn't. The good news is that under the new management (a very genuine & friendly couple who are proper pub landlords with loads of knowledge of how to make customers feel at home), both the atmosphere and the food have improved considerably.

I ate here early evening mid-week. The linguine with garic, chili & king prawns was great; fresh ingredients, a lovely combination of flavours and well presented on the plate.

There is a decent selection of draught beers, including a rather good Cornish lager. There is also a range of fruit ciders that are superb; pear & mint is wonderful and I've not seen it on sale anywhere else.

The place has plenty of room inside although it is the local pub for the nearby Exeter Chiefs rugby ground, so be prepared for it to be heaving on match days.

With pubs closing by the handful every day, it is very pleasing to find somewhere that ticks all the boxes on the list of 'just what a pub should be'. The increasing number of patrons hopefully indicates that more & more people are either discovering or re-discovering what a great pub & restaurant this is.

Thunder and lightening greeted us on our Sunday lunchtime trip to the Blue Ball Inn, so with the rain hammering down there was no time to admire this old (built 1705) building with its thatched roof and Georgian frontage.
Inside, it was a different matter with the Christmas decorations illuminated by the electrical storm outside, and a real welcome.
Difficult to choose from a varied but smallish menu, with excellent drinks. The five of us had a lovely meal, nicely presented and served. My locally caught plaice was excellent, and in fact everything was exceptionally good. Just as a village local should be , but with an enviable kitchen.
The midwinter sunshine greeted us as we left, but it was the Blue Ball that made us glow inside.
