A small second floor flat (no lift) in a new-ish residential block Shauls Court in Verney Street in Exeter town centre.
It seems likely that this was originally built as a one bedroom flat with a living room and kitchen / diner. However they have moved the small dining table into the small entrance lobby outside the toiletries , and moved the living area into the kitchen diner and made the living room into a second bedroom.
The main bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe and two bed side drawers.
In the second bedroom, a double bed almost takes up the whole of the room in which the only other item is a chest of drawers (no wardrobe). The small dining table is relegated to the windowless entrance lobby.
The kitchen has a toaster, oven, sink and fridge. There is dish washer, washing machine or freezer (no frozen compartment in fridge).
The flat had not been thoroughly cleaned before the letting. This was annoying as we were charged an hefty compulsory ‘cleaning’ fee of £50 for this small flat.
* The sofa was covered in long hair and was rather grubby (but perhaps the cream colour shows dirt more?).
* There was a sock from the previous rental next to the sofa.
* A few bits and pieces were left un-hoovered on the floor.
* The windows were dirty.
* The wardrobe mirror was badly smeared.
* The hallway wall also had pen scribbling on it.
Not the end of the world, but completely unacceptable when an whopping hefty ‘cleaning’ fee is charged.
The beds were comfy and clean.
The view from the window is of back garages and other flats, with multiple security lights that also light up the bedrooms at night. The thin curtains made little or no difference. If you sleep better in the dark, maybe this little flat is not for you?
Despite being advertised as being suitable for 5 people, there is only only bed space for four, room on the settee for four and dining space for four. A fifth person could sleep on the settee (but there was no bedding available to do so). To say this is suitable for 5 people is misleading, and verging on being dishonest.
At £147 for a night, this is really poor value for money. It is quite a tight squeeze for four, and could not accommodate five, and the cleaning isn’t good enough. Only worth considering at a far lower price.
