“Pretty but unsubstantial”
Reviewed November 29, 2012 via mobile

Don't get me wrong the food looks great and tastes great but when you pay nearly £30 for dinner you don't expect to wonder if Tesco's is still open so you can get a sandwich
No complaints about quality, just the quantity I am afraid

“Wish we had not bothered”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

Called into the Champane bar for a pre lunchtime drink whilst visiting Exeter and its Cathedral.
If ever I have been made to feel that a business was doing you a favour it was here. Curt staff, cold atmosphere, extremely smelly downstairs loos and all in all probably best not visited at all.
That said, it saddens me when a hotel with such an enviable position get it so wrong. The design team decide to put a reception desk right inside the front door - probaly hoping that guest would be greeted on arrival and departure ...... not at the Royal Clarence ..... not even a raised head ...... such a shame

“Birthday celebration/Early Christmas shopping trip”

Had lunch at Abode Exeter today. Food and service was excellent. The flavours and presentation was as you would expect here. The ginger pudding with pear sorbet and butterscotch sauce was to die for. Thank you for a great experience.

“Exeter has no competition”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

The standard of service is like the food. It is always better than you hope for. It isn't Gidleigh Park but at the price, it provides a less formal experience that never fails to wow and is a lot more convenient to eat at too. Excellent isnt a good enough rating for the service.

“Consistently good chain in Exeter”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

This was our second visit to a Micahel Caines within three weeks for a special value 3 course meal at £25. This time it was an early diner. Three of us had two different starters and main courses and we each had a different desert. We were all extremely pleased. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday so it was still quiet. We had contact with about 4 or 5 members of staff and all of them gave us great service. We had a half litre of Chilean red which was very tasty. Our table looked out over the magnificent Cathedral. It was a very enjoyable evening with great food and service with a lovely setting.
