What a lovely setting for a summer place. The guides are very helpful and gave us a real insight into Agatha's life.We booked in advance to get a parking space. Very clean and tidy and good value for money as you could spend the day there. We enjoyed the food at the café too. All in all well worth going to

“Busy - But Fascinating”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

As NT members - and Agatha Christie fans - Greenway was a much anticipated part of our itinerary. We arranged our travel via Greenway Ferries (see separate review) on a warm sunny day and found the greeting at the entrance equally sunny! Due to the time of year, there was a ticket system operating, allowing timed entry to the house, and we only had a short time to wait, which we spent on the grass at the front of the house (it is great to have so many benches and chairs around for visitors to use!). Despite the timed entry, we did find the house quite busy, and especially at the pinch points - such as the inner hall - it was at times confusing, as the room hosts were struggling to point people in the right direction. However, we did work it out (and also saw one of the room hosts from our visit a few days earlier to Coleton Fishacre, which was nice, as she remembered us!) though it meant we weren't able to spend as long as I would've wished in the inner hall, which seemed like one of the most interesting parts of the house!

Anyway, we left the house and headed for something to eat. The cafe was very busy, so we opted for the smaller takeaway next door. Whilst I have given Greenway a good score, I will add that if you can, either take your own sandwiches or eat early/late at the cafe, as frankly the takeaway sandwiches are a bit of a rip off for what you get. The prawn cocktail was tasteless and the bottled water is overpriced. The only saving grace were the cookies, which are proper biscuits and come as part of the meal deal, which in itself is not a bad idea, if overpriced. That said, it was not terrible, just one of those occasions when the NT does let itself down.

The children enjoyed their trails, though we did not get time to go around the gardens before needing to head to the quay for our ferry. Having arrived by road (a long story) we didn't know which direction to go, and the map didn't make it clear we had to head out via the entrance, however luckily we went this way. If we had tried to get out past the house, I suspect we would have missed our ferry! Anyway, all well that ends well - nice property, well worth a look!

“Well worth a visit especially for Agatha Christie fans”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

The house is set in beautiful green leafy countryside leading down to Greenway Quay situated on an inlet of the River Dart. There is a small passenger ferry which will take you to Dartmouth. Nice walk from Galmpton (aprox 30-40 mins stroll) but you have to pre-book parking if you take car but stunning scenery.

“A step back in time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Wonderful house and gardens and always a pleasurable visit. Wondering around the home of Agatha Christie you feel as though you may bump into her at any moment. Great tea shop and even an old original vintage bus to ride on. Helpful and very knowledgable volunteers who make you feel very welcome. You can even stay in a flat attached to the main house ( at a price!) or hire the main dinning room for functions.......but be careful one of your guests isn't murdered! Arrive by boat on the beautiful River Dart and it will truly be a very magical English day out

“Agatha fans won't be disappointed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Greenway was the summer home of detective writer Agatha Christie and has recently been opened to the public. A comfortable rather than a stately home, the furnishings, at Agatha's family's request, have been left just as she used to have them- rather a brave decision as the numbers visiting are now getting rather large! You can take just as long as you like to absorb the feel of the house and, as it was a Sunday on our visit, we took the opportunity to avail of the Sunday lunch which is served in the old kitchen. We felt this really brought us close to Agatha's family! It is a very simple menu but nicely cooked and served with great Eton Mess to finish! We were lucky to get a table on spec, but it would be a good idea to book ahead if you want to do it. There is a cafe if you are out of luck. After your house visit, you can stroll about the gardens which are lovely, with lots of secluded walks. A great day out and if you haven't a car you can get there by bus, vintage bus, ferry or taxi. Closed Mondays.

Hi there,

Thank you for this great review - it looks like you had a really enjoyable and special visit. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your lunch in the house kitchen as well - as you say it is a good idea to call ahead to book a table, but if you want to book on the day we can usually accommodate.

I hope you can visit again!
