What a wonderfully welcoming hotel this is.On arrival our car was parked for us in the hotel carpark whilst we registered. We were shown to our 'upgraded' room (18) which has a river view and is delightful. Lovely furniture and pictures, smart bathroom and a good hospitality tray. Some lovely books and magazines too. Decor is quirky but that's good in a hotel room. The view of the harbour was a bonus.
Breakfast was great. As vegetarians it can be a lottery but, wow, it was good. Service good, too, smiles and attentiveness always. i would defy anyone to walk from that dining room feeling hungry!
Dartmouth is delightful, we just walked around for the days we were there, stopping for coffee, strolling along by the harbour and visiting art shops. A very relaxing place, even though it was half-term.

When we arrived for our stay, the receptionist quickly found our reservation and informed us that we had been upgraded to a river view room free of charge. She immediately dispatched a gentleman to take our bags and park our car. She then showed us to our room, pointing out the restaurant where breakfast was to be served, and handed us the key. The friendly, efficient service was constant throughout our stay - at breakfast, in the pub, etc. Our room was comfortable and we slept well with no hotel or street noise. We would definitely stay here again.

The reception staff were most helpful and because the hotel car park was rather full we were give a carparking pass that entitled us to park free of charge in the town car park and also in other areas around Dartmouth. The Hotel staff were excellent so was the food and accommodation. The famous Castle breakfast was superb, so was the bar food. All credit due to Nigel Way and his staff. Can't wait to to stay with them again!

My partner and I booked into this fantastic independent hotel for a landmark birthday treat. We were upgraded (for free) and given a very special room which overlooked the quay. Dinner was delicious and served by unobtrusive and efficient staff. We enjoyed after-dinner drinks in the library which is filled with beautiful old books. Breakfast was perfectly cooked. If you are looking for a memorable experience in a hotel that feels like it has evolved organically, rather than fashioned by an over zealous corporate interior designer, then this is for you. The owners maintain very high standards of service and cleanliness which is refreshing. My only tinge of regret is that the beds are a little soft which made for an awkward night. However, even this would not deter me from booking again. This is how it SHOULD be done! Thank you!

It is a very nice hotel with an excellent service and nice staff, BUT. The rooms at the back of the hotel (particularly room 23) are very noisy due to the general aircondition facility for the whole of the hotel and the kitchens. This central AC is absolutely horrible. Older quest should book one of the lower rooms (in front) as the hotel has no elevator and ther asre 80 steps to the higher rooms
