We spent two nights staying at Charity House in April 2012 and were delighted with our time there. The rooms have beautiful decor (lovely vintage feel) and lots of little extra touches that make you feel really at home. Lovely breakfasts that set you up for the whole day and the friendly owners have lots of local information and ideas for what to do while you are in the area. A great find, reasonably priced and perfect for a relaxing break by the sea.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which was bigger than room 2 (but both were lovely)

If you are after a welcoming, comfortable, informal and professional set-up - this has to be the perfect choice for Dartmouth. The house itself is bulging with character, with wonderful history, set in an idyllic peaceful central location. The hosts, Val and Martin, who are made for this business, have a natural ability to put you at ease, from the moment you arrive. Reminding you, that you are the focus of their time with you, and nothing is too much trouble. Their down to earth knowledge of all different types of pubs, restaurants, bistros, and leisure activities is evident, should you wish to bend their ear on what to do whilst staying there.
The rooms are immaculate, with quality bedding/towels, and a full variety of complimentary beverages and snacks - having fresh milk in the room everyday was a nice touch, along with many other artefacts which make your stay incredibly relaxing.
The breakfast is stunning. Val in her former life, is a chef and showcases her skills at breakfast time with a great array of prepared fresh fruit, a delightful homemade fruit compote (which are addictive!) coupled with a cooked breakfast, ranging from the full-it! Or any variety on that theme.... my partner loved the scrambled eggs with salmon!
Our stay was for four nights and a trip I had planned for three months. When one books a lovely sounding place, one always hopes that it will live up to those expectations - this place exceeds it. I have never written a review before, but the charm of this accommodation, coupled with the tireless hard work put in by Val and Martin, which all go to provide a very relaxing special environment, has compelled me to write.
We will be back.... Hopefully see you soon.... Thank you both.

Ideally situated just a couple of minutes from the river and the heart of town, Charity House is a lovely, quirky, friendly little B&B. We stayed for a couple of days last week and were warmly welcomed by hosts Val and Martin who are clearly naturals at this sort of thing: friendly without being overwhelming or over familiar.
The place is comfortable, well furnished and clean. Add to this one of the best breakfasts I've had the pleasure to enjoy and you've pretty much got exactly what a B&B should be about.
Excellent and warmly recommended.
