“Absolutely Brilliant!”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

Stayed here with 2 friends at the beginning of August & it was wonderful, in every respect. It's well-located, opposite the Old Post Office, so amongst all the interesting shops & cafes, plus not far to walk down to the beach (for Merlin's Cave) & castle.
The building is full of character & the room (no. 3), although over the main bar below, was not that noisy, despite there being a large crowd in, one night, thanks to the Tintagel Carnival. (I always take ear plugs with me, just in case! Never heard a peep once they were inserted).
The room & en-suite were spacious & very clean, with a heated towel rail, which helped with drying waterproofs, thanks to the great UK summer we were experiencing! There are tea & coffee-making facilities in the room & a safe in the wardrobe. Iron & board may be borrowed.
The landing did remind me of Fawlty Towers, with its series of little stairs & steps & rooms off to one side, as well as around the landing, but the service is anything but "fawlty" & the war was never mentioned. We ate in the residents' restaurant all 3 nights & how the food arrives so quickly on the table is beyond compare! Absolutely 1st class service, even when they are busy. Have to agree with a previous reviewer; that lemon brulee cheesecake is out of this world! Don't ever take that off the menu, Jerome! Good menu & value for money. There are specials on the board too. Prices are cheaper than some of the eateries around Tintagel.
Jerome (owner) is brilliant :-) Had exchanged a few emails beforehand as I had a few dietary requests. Nothing is too much trouble & he has a great sense of humour....plus a sense of adventure...or death wish, not sure. Don't think he's sure either, having volunteered to carry my suitcase upstairs! On the day we left, he carried it down a lot quicker than he went up; think it was the momentum combined with gravity.
There is a useful gizmo at the side of the stairs, near the landing, to enable guests to dry their walking boots.
Breakfast is served at a sensible hour, which allowed me to be fairly "with it" by the time I descended into the breakfast area.
There is an ATM & WiFi available. Guests have notices to put inside their cars to entitling them to complimentary use of the car park, next to King Arthur's Arms & this can continue after check-out on the morning of departure.
I promised Jerome that I will return (he tried hard to contain his obvious delight at this news) saying that I would like to take my husband there; he can then carry my case upstairs instead of poor Jerome :-)
The 3 day stay was excellent value for money.
Many thanks for everything Jerome; you'll always remain, "my Vision in Blue"!

Staff very friendly, excellent food, (Lemon Brule Cheesecake to die for!) lovely, comfortable accommodation, breakfast (poached eggs cooked to perfection) - all good! We stayed in a family room and considering the inexpensive price we were pleasantly surprised by the standard of accommodation. The room was cleaned every day, and every need was catered for (hairdryer, wi-fi etc). The tea/coffee tray was kept well stocked with plenty of milk and wide assortment of tea/coffee (little things but they can make a big difference to the overall experience).
The breakfast was also of a high quality compared to other hotels, we only had a main meal once but the food was good and plentiful. The menu is basic pub fayre, but of good quality.
The only downside we found was the level of noise at certain times of night, but when you're staying above a bar this isn't entirely unexpected.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, and overall this is an excellent place to stay.

Spent three nights in the annexe/flat. Accommodation spacious and clean. Breakfast was excellent, especially the service. We also ate most nights in the pub - value for money and quality again excellent. Can't fault the efficient and friendly service and this is an excellent location to explore North Cornwall. Tintagel itself exceeded expectations, other pubs in the village nice. Just beware of the Cornish Rattler Cider!

We have been going to Tintagel for 15 years. We use the same B&B every year because The Four Winds was the first appealing place that we found in 1997 and having been all over England and Europe we still go back to the same B&B. Having said this we use the King Arthur Inn both lunchtime for a drink and evenings for meals. We know that there have been some changes over the years but it is all "back to normal" now. We used the Cornishman, the Wootons, the Olde Malthouse, the Tintagel Arms and the Crossbows in the early years but we never go into any of these now, we love the King Arthur. The staff are wonderful and of course some of them are familiar faces year after year. In the early days of our visits there used to be a quiz on a certain night of the week but it ceased and has never been available over the past 12 or so years during our visits in July or August. We would love to live in Tintagel, or surrounding area but family committments do not allow and so we will keep visiting Tintagel, and the King Arthur Inn for as long as our health prevails. Jerome and the rest of his family and staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. We will keep going as long as possible and hope to keep seeing the same lovely faces and receiving the same hospitality.

My daughter and I stayed for two nights during a tour of Cornwall and were delighted with the warm and friendly welcome from Jerome, Maureen and staff. The room was great, comfortable and clean. The food was delicious both for breakfast and evening meal, can't be faulted. Will definately stay at The King Arthur's Arms again when in the area.
