“Great Nights Stay!”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

What a find! After a terrible accomodation experience the night previous we were lucky to stumble across this place and booked in for the night, though wish it could have been for longer! Managed to get a late deal which was also great. Location is stunning and the rooms are great, recently refurbished with a view of the sea - it was great lying in bed and looking at the seaview! Staff v. friendly, especially manager and lady who served us behind the bar and at breakfast, which added to the great relaxed environment of the place.
My only slightly negative comment would be that the breakfast could be of better quality/choice Apart from this it was a great stay and definately hope to return - thanks!

Just stayed for two wonderful nights at the Port William,The staff were all friendly and very helpful especially the lady that served our breakfast !The view from our room was probably the best sea view you could ask for and the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks ensured a good nights sleep,We had two evening meals and they were of good quality and value,The room was very clean,Our 2 small dogs were also made very welcome !! We will be back next year.

I've been visiting the Port William since discovering it in the mid 70's on a surfing trip and always visit when I'm in the area. I've seen this pub go from a cosy fisherman's pub, through a few changes to the latest disappointing version. The location is needless to say stunning at all times of the year and in my opinion best during stormy sea conditions, maybe as it tends to discourage people from visiting then. At some time in the last few years it seems the St Austell Brewery has taken the pub over (I seem to remember it was a free house) and things have gone down hill. What was a great pub/restaurant is now at best a good pub/disappointing restaurant. We visited twice in early September and as always the place was packed, once for a drink and then for a meal.
The menu is less than inspiring with all the usual bog standard chain pub offerings, the specials board looked good though. We both chose the Crab Linguine from the specials board, what a disappointment, the pasta was over cooked and under seasoned so it was sticky and tasteless and the little crab meat we found was full of bits of shell and cartilage and the whole dish swimming in oil. The only positive from this was when asked if the meal was ok the bar staff seemed concerned and got the duty manager who apologised and deducted the cost of the meals from the bill.
So in future it’s only going to be drinks at one of my favourite locations in the world.

We visited here in September for the day, after a walk on the beach we decided to take the dogs and have a drink and something to eat in the Port William.
The staff were extremely friendly and pleasant and most welcoming. I had the crab salad and it was fabulous, well worth the money! My other half had the mackerel burger unfortunately there was no sign of the chorizo that it was supposed to come with but the presentation and taste was still exceptional. We sat outside and the view was fantastic.
This really is a beautiful place, offering fantastic food and drink at reasonable prices.
Again another gem we found in Cornwall and definitely a must place to visit.

I don't normally write reviews but we stayed at the Port William Inn back in February 2012 as a base to visit Port Issac..We loved it..The rooms were clean and modern and looked out to sea.. We had a very good evening meal, the cod was superb and cooked perfectly, it was so big i thought it might have eaten some of the home made chips..! Way above pub grub standard..The beer was good and enjoyed sitting in the cosy lounge by the fire..
We had a comfortable nights sleep with the window open enough to listen to the sea crashing on the rocks below..
To wake up to the gorgeous view and beach was stunning.. The breakfast was superb sat in the conservatory looking out to sea and service was excellent from the staff, polite and friendly.
We will definately go back and have no hesitation in recommending this nugget on Cornwalls North Coast..

Room Tip: I think all the rooms have a seaview..

This place boasts that it has the best sea views in Cornwall, and we'd have to agree. We tried the basket meals - scampi was lovely. Excellent value and really relaxing to watch the waves crashing onto the rocks. The kids absolutely loved being chased by the waves so it was a good way for us parents to rest our tired legs after climbing all over Tintagel Castle. Highly recommended.

We did not stay at the Port William Inn! We were just passing for the day, it is probably one of the most beautiful locations for a Pub in the country, stunning> high tide> waves, North Cornwall coastline10/10 The staff were very friendly, Quality Beer, the food was OK but don't expect anything special, its your usual middle of the road pub grub,5//10, they are not a restaurant so don't expect restaurant quality food!. We are going back there for sure the next time we go to Cornwall.
