What a find........ We wanted a cheap, short break away from work and family pressures: we found Camelot! From booking to leaving, every member of the team was so utterly charming. Nothing was too much trouble, and everything done with a smile. A lovely room overlooking the VERY stormy sea...... Which gave its own charm....... Like sleeping on a small boat, the noise of the wind, rain, and sea make a wonderful and magical lullaby.
I have to say that some of the reviews on Tripadvisor are less than enthusiastic. What DO people expect? This is an old house: shiny new and glitzy would be SO out of place. It is perfect as it is, and Mr Ted Stourton is the perfect and solicitous host.
To business: comfortable bed, good bed linen, nice shower and bath, very nice toiletries. Black mark: no face flannel! Dud bulb in bathroom was changed within 30 minutes. Good tv, stupendous view, nice sofa and armchair.......oh, and the bed was a very picturesque four-poster!
Excellent breakfast, very good, and not over-priced wine list, with a super choice for dinner, again very reasonably priced. The bar was, again, most conducive to lingering over a G&T (or two).
Very impressive and comfortable hall/lounge, again with panoramic views.
All the walks one could want start right outside the door.......
In all, we enjoyed it. Would we go back? Certainly.
It truly felt more like staying with rich friends than in an hotel. Lovely!

The room itself was gorgeous beautiful big room and bed, stunning views, balcony and was nice and warm! The hotel was lovely the decor matched what the hotel is, a castle! Log fires were constantly on making it warm and cosy! We took our dog with us which was a great bonus, she was welcome in all the main areas except the dining room which we wouldn't have taken her into but had the option to eat with her in another dining area. It was a really fantastic stay! Attentive staff and ted always made sure we were looked after! Staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed on windy nights. Would recommend very enjoyable stay :)

The candle lit ambience, the roaring fires to greet us after a long days walking, the so polite and engaging staff . The incredible and unusaul art , and the view of all views made our stay here most memorable and relaxing .

Polite attentive staff, beautiful building and scenery, great food. The cost to stay here is clearly reflected in the cost to keep the hotel running, great to see places like this still open to guests as a living working hotel!

We stopped here by chance after driving through Tintagel looking for somewhere to shelter from the driving rain. Nice enough building, though a little tired decor wise, and a great location on the headland with outstanding views. We were told by the receptionist there was an art exhibition that was free to browse. We did, and to cut a long story short the artist 'just happened' to be working in his studio that day, and we were invited to look round, be sung to and see the 'famous' light box. And it was my opinion that the whole thing was a bit of a sales ploy to try and convince you that you were in the presence of 'the worlds greatest living artist' (his words). Not illegal, and quite clever really as you almost find yourself drawn in to the story, and when he offers you one of his pieces for just a few hundred pounds, you almost feel tempted. Just be aware if you go there, and might be worth googling Ted Stourton and John Mappin (the owners) before going, it makes for interesting reading.

We've just been for two nights (for the price of one) at Camelot; our second trip. Everything worked well, the staff were outstanding, the hotel was warm and welcoming and we ate well. Our room had a fabulous view of the stormy sea which was spectacular. The bed was really comfortable and our dog was made welcome.

It is an unusual place and there are many people who get over excited on the airways. Our view is that it offers good value, great service and the location is outstanding - simple as that.

My husband and I stayed for a night to celebrate our anniversary last weekend. We had read the reviews and so weren't expecting too much but were drawn in by the castle and surrounding scenery. The hotel itself is quite tired but the staff were lovely and very helpful- even bumped us up to a better room (at no extra charge), as we had a dog and not all rooms were dog friendly. However there were a couple of hidden charges we weren't expecting upon check out. There was an extra fee of £20 for the dog which is fine, but not expected and we were charged £20 for breakfast which we didn't expect either and thought was pretty steep considering it consisted of two omelettes and two glasses of orange juice. To be fair, we had missed breakfast which ended at 10.30 and they offered to rustle something up for us- however, if we knew it was going to cost £20 we would have eaten in the village! We had a fun time all in all but didn't feel it was value for money.
