“Spot on! Very nice stay.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2010

My wife and myself chose this hotel for a short break in Cornwall close to the sea and we were delighted with our stay. The welcome was friendly and informative. The staff gave us some great tips on what to see and do in the area, Tina our waitress was great and very helpfull. Our room was very comfortable, nice clean white sheets and we had a lovelly sea view. Breakfast was fresh with both a continental and cooked breakfast, I don't remember having a nicer one. We had a very good experience eating in the restaurant on Saturday night, my ribeye steak was exceptional.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in June 2010 and, like the previous reviewer, feel that their website had led me to expect the hotel to be better than it actually was. In fact, we were so disappointed when we first arrived that we actually rang around a couple of other hotels looking for alternative accommodation (they were full so we stayed put).

Our room was in the old part of the house and was quite a good size, but the bathroom seriously let it down. It was a chocolate brown suite with a most unhygienic carpet. The shower was actually fairly decent, although on the final day there was a knock on the door whilst I was taking a shower because there was water running through the ceiling downstairs! The bed was comfy but the other fittings and furniture were so dated that it gave the hotel a uncared-for feel.

The communal areas downstairs had obviously been updated more recently. The dining room was lovely - bright and airy with white linen tablecloths. The breakfast selection was generally pretty good, although for the price I would have expected hot food to be cooked to order, rather than served buffet style. The breakfast staff was helpful and friendly though.

We were put off of using the other communal areas, mainly due to the large dog who had the complete run of the downstairs area, bar the dining room. He seemed friendly enough but he is HUGE - fine if you're a dog-lover, but not so good if you're actually a bit wary of dogs.

Whilst Tintagel itself isn't the most scenic of locations (nearby Boscastle and Port Isaac are much more picturesque), it's ideally located for the local coast paths. There are plenty of pubs and a few restaurants in the town, although we mostly travelled outside the area in the evenings to eat.

By the end of our holiday, the hotel had grown on us - hence the 3 star rating - but I wouldn't go back. It seems to rely very heavily on business from package tours (there was a large group there during our stay) rather than more independent travellers. I just think for the money it should have been better.

On checking out the hotel on the internet, thought we had struck gold. Rooms looks spacious, comfortable and well kept. Restaurant menu looked excellent and we needed a place to stay for one night - with a sea view. However, on arrival the welcome was scant to say the least, basically when breakfast was and as it was Sunday, only the carvery was available in the restaurant.... not our first choice. The bedroom was a small and very "tired" twin, must say the beds were comfortable and clean. The sea view was there, but in the distance, once you had got over the pitch and put and the roofs of the houses in front of you. The best bit was the "ensuite" - which to all intent and purposes was the other half of the wardrobe. It was a good job we knew each other well, the toilet and shower were in a very small space, in fact as the door would not close properly (or open properly at that) you could have the sea view from the loo ! When in the shower, and forgetting to pull the shower switch heater, you could reach from the shower to switch on.. .not ideal from a health and safely point of view. The Hotel was also home to a huge dog (deerhound) which when you are not a dog lover, it would have been appreciated if you had been aware that it had the run of the main part of the hotel. The only positive was breakfast... which was excellent, however I must say the photo's on the website are misleading and did not reflect the quality of our room. Would not bother to go back.

We've just come back from a 4 night stay at this lovely hotel and can recommend it highly. Our room was light, bright and very clean and the bed and bedding was probably the most comfortable we had ever stayed in. Fluffy white and set in a brass bed with views out to sea! Breakfast was excellent and dinner was so good we stayed in most nights for freshly caught fish and delicious steaks.
The owners were very welcoming and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The coast path is a joy to explore and as the hotel tells you only 200m down a little track.
Excellent all round and perfect if you want to visit Tintagel Castle or Boscastle or even visit Ricks place at you know where?
Although I always miss the New Forest when away from home our stay here meant we really enjoyed our few days away.

Our room was nice and big, and fairly newly decorated. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was good with a wide range of options. An excellent place for a stay whilst seeing the surrounding sights.

B&B located on the outskirts of Tintagel, approx 10 min walk to pubs etc. set in a nice quiet location with sea views to one side of the house. Nicely decorated room, amazingly comfortable bed and pillows only downside was the poorly decorated bathroom, tiles had been replaced at different times so had different coloured whiteness, bad plaster job behind the toilet but was clean and had a constant supply of hot water.

The breakfast was AMAZING! self service full cooked english breakfast that was replenished frequently and was always piping hot. Croissants, porridge, toast, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt was also available. Tina was very friendly and happy to assist with any local information and advice.

B&B seems to be popular with overseas visitors, 24 germans were visiting during our stay so we were advised to go for dinner earlier rather than later. We didn't visit the restaurant during our stay but if the breakfast was anything to go by i'm sure it would be as good.

Only problem we had was that we were located directly below the family room so had the constant thud of children running round above us, sound proofing was not good. Would stop at Bossiney House again but would make sure we were not in the same room / located below the family room.

B&B ideally situated for walks in the area, coastal walk starts within 5 mins from the house, beautiful scenery near by.

Feel this review is not complete until we have mentioned Angus, their dog (large scottish deerhound), owners checked we were OK with dogs before we were introduced to him - he slowly walked over for a fuss then slowly walked off again - quite a gentle giant who seemed happy to be fussed or left alone - possibly the most chilled out dog in Tintagel :-)

Spent only a night in this family run hotel and was treated like long-lost friends; comfortable room, tasty food, attentive service and the dog was allowed to accompany me to the bar - now that's what I call a great hotel. Situated between Tintagel and Boscastle, this hotel is ideal if you want to go to the beach or walk the coastal footpath which passes about 400m to the rear. I will be staying there again when I next visit my family in nearby Treven.
