Owner description: This brooding 13th-century castle sits on the rugged and spectacular Atlantic coast in Cornwall, which recalls the myth and mystery associated with King Arthur and Merlin the magician. New exhibition explores the stories linking Tintagel to King Arthur which includes a 3D model of the site illustrating how it has changed over the centuries. Dog friendly and child friendly, this is a great day out for all the family.

“Magical,mystical”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

Set on a cliff top looking out on to the Atlantic the castle is reached by crossing a bridge and then climbing steep steps with a sheer drop to the ocean. The history, beauty and mysticism make this an absolute must for anyone fascinated by Arthurian legend.

“A Must to see”

what a place steeped in history its a bit of a walk but worth the effort.
But there is a Landrover that will take you up the hill when you are done. there is a nice tea room so you can enjoy a drink on the beach just ask them for a take out cup.

“Top of the World”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

Tintagel Castle is perched atop a large hill - more like a small mountain. There are stairs and stairs and even more stairs, but the exertion is worth the climb. On three sides of this mountain enclave is the blue green ocean, waves splashing up on rocks far below. We wandered all over this magical place, the place of King Arthur and Merlin. Nothing is off limits and we could climb all over the ruins and grassy areas. The entire experience was dramatic, to say the least. We could almost feel the presence of knights and kings. The sky was blue and there was a gentle breeze as we picnicked overlooking the the small cove containing Merlin's cave. My husband and I were too tired to trek down the mountainside so we paid for a shuttle ride to the bottom.

“Worth a visit but not for the 'short of breath'!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013 via mobile

A very interesting and large site, but as other reviewers have mentioned, there is no actual castle, just ruins. Be prepared for lots of VERY steep steps and a lot of walking, even down to the actual site. There is transport down to the beginning of the site if you require, but at an extra cost.

“Fantastic”

This is a great excursion for families. The steps were steep and not appropriate for everyone but the views were incredible. Well worth the time and effort.
