Owner description: This brooding 13th-century castle sits on the rugged and spectacular Atlantic coast in Cornwall, which recalls the myth and mystery associated with King Arthur and Merlin the magician. New exhibition explores the stories linking Tintagel to King Arthur which includes a 3D model of the site illustrating how it has changed over the centuries. Dog friendly and child friendly, this is a great day out for all the family.

We have friends who live a mile from here so visit quite often. If you take it all with a grain of salt it is a fun place, the old castle is as one would expect quite spectacular and with the Arthurian legend tacked on worth an hour or so.
Tacky gift shops and poor quality fast food littler the place but having said that is you have children they will certainly enjoy.

If you were to write down a dream medieval castle, this would be it. Ruined walls on an impregnable headland with stunning views. Well worth a visit.

Located on a headland by the village of Tintagel, the castle is not, as many seem to believe, the mythical Camelot, but it certainly has enough mystery and legends associated with it to make you think it really was! The castle itself is a ruin, but the views are amazing and the walking is varied. What I like about Tintagel Castle is that it doesn't try to capitalise too much on the Arthurian legends - a short film at the entrance explains the myth and how it grew, without dismissing the idea that Arthur could have existed in some form and emphasises the intriguing history of the castle whether Arthur was present here or not.

because of its steep steps and cliff top location, do not visit the castle in wet or windy weather. It is also unsuitable for young children or those with mobility problems for the views alone, this. There is a Land Rover taxi service for £2 each way down from the village (a steep descent / ascent) and entrance to the castle is £5.70 per adult - very good value indeed.

All in all, an excellent option for a morning or afternoon on a nice summer day.
