“Good for one night stay”
Reviewed March 11, 2012

We booked for one night only. We were the only guests staying and the staff moved us to a room as far from the bar as possible as a band was playing live that night. We didn't hear the band but there was a lot of noise outside. We were 3 floors up and at the front. I had earplugs so was ok and my husband sleeps well, noise or not, but I can imagine the noise being a problem for some. The room was small, clean and comfortable with tea and coffee facilities, and the bathroom was obviously quite new and very clean. The shower was quite weak but wasn't a problem for us. We ate in the bar that evening and the food was very nice but nothing special. The only really disappointing thing for me was the breakfast. It is served between 08.30 and 09.00 but this might be different during the week as we were there on a Sunday morning. We were given white toast but not offered a choice of white or w'meal or brown and the apple juice was clear and nasty-tasting. The full English was all fried and all-in-all, ok for one night but pretty unhealthy for those staying for longer. £1 or 2 per person extra could have ensured a nicer and healthier breakfast. Ok but wouldn't stay again, sorry!

Room Tip: Take earplugs as it is likely to be noisy whichever room you have

Booked late and when we got there we had a lovely room- very clean with TV and satellite - comfy bed - hot drinks facility and complimentary toiletries. The bars are cosy and have open fire places, the food was very good quality and good value. Locally sourced ingredients and well cooked. Breakfast was served swiftly and was very nice. Really enjoyed this place and the staff were funny and helpful.

Room Tip: room 10 is excellent and has lovely views through the sky lights

We stopped off here for the night before going to the castle in the morning. It has very clean rooms in an attached building, a good central location in the middle of the village, really good food (better than your usual pub grub) and nice friendly staff. We were treated and welcomed in like locals. Lovely.

I have never stayed at the Cornishman so cannot comment on the rooms there. However, I have been visiting North Cornwall for the past 5 years, twice a year and have frequented the Cornishman Inn many a time. The staff have always been very friendly and service has been great. Over 5 years I would say that I have ate there over 20 times, and I have never been disappointed by a meal. The food is always great. One time my steak was too blue and I asked the staff if it could be cooked rare for me, and they sorted me out no problem. I always enjoy the time I spend in the Cornishman and always look forward to that first drink there after the long journey from Yorkshire. One of my favorite pubs in Cornwall.

Have just got back from this hotel. Arrived at 2pm to be told our room was not ready (although the booking confirmation clearly stated the room would be available at 12). The barman suggested we wait in the pub garden but did not offer a free drink by way of apology. When we eventually got access to the room it was clean enough, a bit twee but the bed was comfortable with a sparkling bathroom. However as the room overlooked the busy pub garden the noise was very intrusive. It was not possible to sleep with the window shut as the weather was so warm and no fans were provided. We chose not to eat at the hotel as even by 8.30 the bar and restaurant were empty. A nearby pub The King Arthurs Arms, was packed so we decided to eat there instead and were glad we did as the food and atmosphere were brilliant. After a rather restless night (more noise from garden) we arrived downstairs to be told breakfast finished at 9am...on a Sunday!!!! Overall a disapointing stay in Tintagel and a sad end to a lovely long weekend touring Cornwall. Would recommend Newquay or Padstow over Tintagel any day.

I the barman ( & landlord ) showed this couple to their room. Sylvia was just finishing vacuuming the room, not ideal but not exactly the end of the world, I told them it would be ready in 5 minute's, they said that was fine and had a drink on the terrace. The night before we were full so most of the rooms were leaving and had to be changed.
Checkout is 10.30 and to change all of the rooms by 12 noon is just not physically possible, but we will try and let any early arrivals in as soon as possible. If they let us know in advance we can clean those rooms first.
On the saturday night there was a lot going on in the area. There were 2 local weddings one in Delabole and one in Camelford as well as the " Wrongfest" a weekend long festival with surfing skating and a party on that saturday night in a field less than a mile away with a marquee, bar music etc.. as well as a Charity darts knockout in The King Arthurs Arms so it is not surprising that any people that were left in the village were probably there
We were busy with food that night, but by about 8.30pm the lounge bar was closing down while the other bar was still open.
The rest of the evening was rather quiet, which allowed my wife and I to get an early night (very welcome ) so i do not understand about the noise from the garden.
Yours
Jeremy Knight

A most enjoyable short break. The hotel was very accommodating, comfy bedroom and facilities. Staff very friendly and hospitable. Excellent food. Breakfast excellent- freshly cooked. Lovely hot toast. Will recommend and return again. The waitress on sunday morning was rushed off her feet, but coped admirably.
