Tried to get in to their Thrifty Thursday evening session but they were booked up so went on our last night in Tintagel. Owners very welcoming, chatty and willing but a bit disorganised. Having said that, on a recce visit, they offered to put away their enormous hound when we asked if we could bring our dog into the garden.

The food was very good. I think they must have followed a previous reviewer's advice and hired a chef because my sea bass - 3 big fillets - was excellent in a creamy, delicate dill sauce. Not cheap but good quality and very friendly

We booked a table for 8 on their Thrifty Thursday meal deal.
First of all my friends, a family of 4 ordered chicken without sauce, unfortunately the plates all came with sauce on the chicken. The other food was ok but not as I expected from a nice looking posh restaurant & hotel establishment.
They then got the bill wrong but did change it.
I would suggest visit Charlie's about 400 yards down the road in the main village of Tintagel.

We booked by telephone after finding the restaurant on the web and were glad that we did. The atmosphere was very welcoming, the food was immaculately prepared and we had a fantastic time. We will definitely come again.

Last night of holiday in the area during August 2008. Decided to try this restaurant for evening meal based on the write up we had read stating locally sourced produce used and cooked to the highest standards.

Nice drink at the bar and menu given to peruse.

Taken to table in very bland, highly lit restaurant with a coach party, the only other table being used in the room and some sort of presentation going on for them.

We were then left for around 10 minutes before being asked if we would like to order any wine. Ordered the house champagne which appeared after another wait of about 5 minutes - not chilled and put into an ice bucket.
The staff member had not been trained in either how to open or pour this properly.

Eventually ordered food.

The prawn starter was well over-cooked as the shells were not far off being fused to the flesh and they were very chewy.
The scallops were drowned in their sauce but okay.
Main course of sea bass was completely over-powered by the sauce which appeared to be made of chopped up pickled gherkins abongst other things so it was very vinegary. Very sad, unimaginative vegetables amongst which some rather floppy/bendy broccoli.
The steak came with the sauce poured all over it in spite of having asked for it to be placed seperately and when it was sent back, it arrived back only a couple of minutes later with the sauce seperate. A bit disturbing that it took so little time. Was it just run under the tap and changed plates?
After all that we declined having desert or coffee.

New chef required I think; one not so sauce happy. Or at least, one who knows hwo to make a good sauce!

Perhaps a little attention to ambience and some staff training might bring this restaurant up to where it aspires. Lots of work yet....
