“Great pub. Poor B&B”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2014 via mobile

Last minute me and partner decided we'd book somewhere for an over night stay. After looking online we came across The Victory Inn which looked nice and sounded great... To be honest it's a real shame I have to say this BUT it really was a poor stay. On arrival the pub outside looked lovely, quiet and cosy. We was greeted inside by a very friendly Bulgarian chap, he showed us to our room "The Nelson Room" showed us the fire escapes and reserved us a table for dinner by the fire! We went to the room to unpack and get scrubbed up for grub... Then the problems started appearing.. We turned the TV on for some background noise while getting ready.. After scanning the TV three times it came back with the same thing "no channels found" so we scrapped that idea and went to turn on the small clock radio supplied to find that didn't work at all.. Wouldn't switch on. By this point we was getting rather fed up.. My partner then went to the bathroom, flushed the toilet and the toilet flooded the bathroom out and water came running out and all over the carpet... As I went running out the door to get someone the chap that greeted us was running up the stairs for our room already.. I explained our problem and he supplied us with more towels to lay on the bathroom floor and carpet... My partner goes back in to the bathroom to fill the sink for a shave..... To find out the hot water tap didn't work! After finally showering in a mouldy shower we finally make our way downstairs. The chap asked us "is everything okay so far" hmm... So we told him all the problems also including:

No internet (even tho advertised)
Dust everywhere!
Windows wouldn't open.
Dodgy bedside lamp.
Rusty shelving unit in bathroom.
Fire exit door that doesn't work (as we realised when we was trying to get back in the pub later in the evening when everyone else in the pub had gone home)
Kettle that turns itself off half way through boiling.

After telling him all of the above he said he was sad to hear it and gave us a complimentary bottle of their finest red (11%... Gonna need to be stronger than that for us to enjoy our stay!!!)

However.. I cannot fault the food. Well priced and enjoyable.

So, beware if considering staying at The Victory Inn.

“Exceptionally welcoming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2014

Superb service, very welcoming and really good fish and chips.

Possibly the best service we've ever had in a pub, prompt, friendly and helpful. Together with a varied menu and a real fire, it made for an excellent evening, especially give the dreadful weather outside.

“CONSISTANTLY GOOD.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

A "proper Cornish pub" with plenty of locals at the bar, plenty of atmosphere, and a good choice of beers. Friendly informal service, and always a selection of lovely fresh fish and seafood dishes on the menu .... I've never had a bad meal. Very popular ... table bookings essential.

“Simple and delicious”

Clearly popular with locals and tourists alike, this friendly, simple pub wins over its larger competition (The Rising Sun) hands down. extensive specials and daily deals offer great value.

“not quite the standard expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

Having heard good reviews before we visited we were expecting a top end pub experience. It was disappointing as the food seemed to have been prepared well in advance and kept warm and a glass of red wine was served almost too hot to hold! Service was ok but not particularly slick. Maybe we just hit it on the wrong night as other people at our B&B had recommended it.
