Description: The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock’s restaurant, run by our head chef, Guy Owen, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard our setting is very relaxed.

had dinner here on bank holiday monday in august. hotel had just had major refurb. decor etc fabulous. great views across st mawes harbour.ate outside and as it colder the staff brought rugs etc. service was bit too slow - took about 10 mins to order drinks then they took another 15 mins to appear - so we had been there about 30 mins before they took food order. food was good though and prices not to ott for the position etc .

Lunch on the terrace overlooking the stunning St Mawes Harbour - enjoyed light lunch (sole goujons) and wine - not the cheapest but incredible value for money given the location, attentive staff, quality of food and presentation. Hotel recently been refurbished in New England beach style, which suits the hotel and setting wonderfully.
Will be back - hopefully to stay next time as well!!

We ate here one evening while on holiday, I was a bit nervous at first as it has some bad reviews on here, but I presume they are before the refurbishment. The food here is amazing taking great advantage of all the local materials available but putting a fresh spin on it. The inside of the building looked good too, they obviously spent a lot of money on it during the refurbishment. Also it has a great view of the harbour, so if its warm enough i would recommend asking for a table outside. Staff were great, couldn't do enough for us, but it's true some of them do lack a little experience. I think this is definitely going to become known as the best place to eat in the area for a special meal.

Went to try out this lovely venue with family members for a spot of lunch. Three of us arrived and were seated outside at a table for two. We waited over 20 minutes for someone to take a drinks order before we eventually ended up at the bar to order instead. By this time a larger table had become available so we asked to move which was not a problem, we just had to wait for the table to be cleaned. Another 15 minutes passed, still waiting for our drinks and to be told when the table was ready before once again we had to go and find someone to check for ourselves. Turned out our beers and soft drinks had already been deposited to the table and were busy warming up in the sunshine !
The brunch menu, which is all that was offered, is very limited. Not very suitable if you're pregnant, which I am, or vegetarians either. This is a beautiful restaurant, with beautiful views of St Mawes bay. The food ordered by the others in my group I'm told was very good, as were my chips. We were just so very disapponted with the poor service, even though there were plenty of staff on duty.

Absolutely stunning hotel. Best situation in St. Mawes. The staff were incredibly friendly, although a bit disorganized their charm and helpfulness more than made up for it. I reckon this will become the top spot in St. Mawes.
