Description: The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock’s restaurant, run by our head chef, Guy Owen, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard our setting is very relaxed.

Went to try out this lovely venue with family members for a spot of lunch. Three of us arrived and were seated outside at a table for two. We waited over 20 minutes for someone to take a drinks order before we eventually ended up at the bar to order instead. By this time a larger table had become available so we asked to move which was not a problem, we just had to wait for the table to be cleaned. Another 15 minutes passed, still waiting for our drinks and to be told when the table was ready before once again we had to go and find someone to check for ourselves. Turned out our beers and soft drinks had already been deposited to the table and were busy warming up in the sunshine !
The brunch menu, which is all that was offered, is very limited. Not very suitable if you're pregnant, which I am, or vegetarians either. This is a beautiful restaurant, with beautiful views of St Mawes bay. The food ordered by the others in my group I'm told was very good, as were my chips. We were just so very disapponted with the poor service, even though there were plenty of staff on duty.

Absolutely stunning hotel. Best situation in St. Mawes. The staff were incredibly friendly, although a bit disorganized their charm and helpfulness more than made up for it. I reckon this will become the top spot in St. Mawes.

We went here for an afternoon cream tea whilst on holiday in Cornwall. The hotel has recently been renovated and the decor is stunning. Very stylish and contemporary. We sat outside overlooking the harbour and the view was fantastic! Our cream teas were just as lovely. The scones were really tasty and everything was very nicely presented. Staff were friendly and professional. We would certainly visit again next time we are in Cornwall and would highly recommend it to others.

Ate there tonight and were delighted with the food, decor and service. My wife said her starter was the best vegetable starter that she had ever eaten, light, tasty and beautifully presented. We had lemon sole and lobster both excellent, creme brûlée also very good. An excellent Beaujolais and a refreshing New Zealand Cab-Sav The site is the best in St Mawes with views across the harbour with the sunset over Falmouth. For
many years this was a tired old hotel stuck in the 1950s. The new owners have transformed it , spent a fortune and it is well worth a visit.

Brand new hotel, recently opened. Gorgeous decor. Reception and branding good. Staff look lovely. From there on a bit downhill. Three turns to get the tea right and posh boy said third time lucky and had bought wrong tea again, at which point we gave up. Not enough clotted cream, looked good in pot but pot not big enough.
Would go again hoping it improves.
No one seemed to be in overall control to help the inexperienced staff.
