The renovation is superb and the location stunning. It is let down by some teething problems with the service which at the prices that are charged should not happen. Everyone was extremely polite and tried to provide our simple order for cream tea which did eventually appear, albeit not all at the same time and after some chasing.

Whilst we only went there to eat so could not comment on the rooms, all four of us noticed that the loos were not particularly clean and attention to detail was missing eg no place to put dirty hand towels.

We walked away with the thought that we would return to give it another try, but not for a while when they have hopefully sorted out the teething problems and fully trained the staff.

This was our first visit after the total renovation, now superbly appointed with beautifully co-ordinated furnishings. Sat on the terrace- end but one table-opposite end to the harbour. Unfortunately due to the blustery conditions the condiments, placemats and serviettes had a mind of their own by keep blowing off the table. Also the parasol blew over, only missing my head by inches. We pointed out to one of the female staff that I had picked them up from the floor and suggested maybe the way to eliminate this problem would be to erect a glass and stainless steel screen to eleviate the problem of the gusts of wind- by her facial expression she was not at all amused. We ate crispy whitebait with a side order of mixed leaf salad and a house salad. We both felt that the seasoning was too salty and what would have been a nice touch would have been offered some bread with our lunch. On the plus side we had a lovely jug of water with lemon and strawberries and one dessert of Lemon meringue sundae which was delicious. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, never being rushed and the waiter very friendly to all the customers.
Concerning the website it would be nice to have a permanent set menu for everybody to view so as people have a knowledge of what is on offer, rather than just a sample menu from one particular day. Finally we have seen no mention of the hotel tariffs, which would be useful information.

Having stayed at the Idle Rocks for more than 30 years we are so pleased with the new dimension given by David & Karen Richards and his superb team.
Nothing is too much trouble. Rooms beautiful, Restaurant better than the Tresanton. With a few teething problems the staff were only too pleased to talk about and correct.
The hotel of St.Mawes.

The location, service and menu very good.
But, the hotel was playing Music loud so one could hardly have a conversation. On request the music was turned down, but not turned off as requested.
It is a mystery that a fine hotel like Idle Rock plays kind of cheap supermarket music at a time guests enjoy dinner and the fine settings.

Afternoon tea on the terrace in the sunshine overlooking the sea - perfect, so good we stayed for an early evening glass of Rosé! Staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful - are real asset to the Hotel. Will be returning and hopefully to stay for a few days.

Occupying a splendid position with views across the estuary, this hotel/restaurant has undergone a massive refurbishment along with change of ownership. We visited for lunch just after it reopened. Beautifully appointed with a chic nautical look. Several, large patio doors open onto a decked terrace, with tables etc for both dining and drinks. We had lunch under large sun parasols ( as much to guard from the sea gulls as the sunshine!) and enjoyed our leisurely lunch very much indeed. The menu consists of a selection of little plates and larger plates. We chose the goujons of sole, served with hand cut fries etc. stylishly served on a board and in a little fish basket. Different. Extensive wine and cocktail list. Well priced wines by the glass and by the bottle. Service was friendly and pleasant, clearly they are getting used to the job of working as team, it is early days yet, but they seem to need to smooth out service between front of house and the bar, which was slow. Not too sure about the mixed and rather beaty music, maybe it is me, but in this location, with these views and the gentle flapping of yacht sails, I am not sure this adds to,the ambience. Full marks to a brilliant refurbishment though. I am sure the bedrooms are equally stylish.

We stopped here for coffee on the terrace. It is absolutely beautiful, the photos of the new décor on the website do not do it justice. It is stylish and comfortable with beautiful flower displays. It had only opened a few days before and the staff were enthusiastic and professional and very friendly. I' m sorry to hear that some people can no longer afford to go there, always a shame when it has been somewhere you loved. You can still enjoy the terrace for a cuppa or a glass of wine though.
