We had lunch at Hotel Tresanton very recently. The dining room, like the rest of the hotel interior, is very stylish and comfortable, and the views are stunning. We found the predominantly young staff friendly and helpful, and overall we had an enjoyable family lunch with our children. However we were a bit disappointed in the food. It was all perfectly fresh and competently cooked (apart from the poached pears which perhaps could have done with a few more minutes in their poaching liquid !) but somehow lacked any sparkle to elevate it to the high quality of the restaurant’s ambience and surroundings. My husband and I had lemon sole main courses, comprising unimpeachably fresh whole fish, but the execution of the dish was, we thought, more homely than professional. We were looking for cooking that was something more than merely “competent” and alas we didn’t find it here. As an aside I’d also mention that the kitchen’s timing was not 100% spot on. At the prices charged, this was an irritation. Five out of six of us were presented with our hot main courses while the sixth person had to wait a few minutes for his cold main course. A mozzarella salad can “wait” on the pass for the table’s hot dishes, but not the other way round...

Not usually keen on fish but the cod with bacon was superb. Relaxing drink before dinner in the lounge, and sat by the open log fire afterwards too. Restaurant is very comfortable and the food really is extremely good. Service friendly, professional and well timed. Very good evening - thank you

If any restaurant can better take advantage of bright winter sunshine by offering guests a lunch that matched the view and weather than the Tresanton, then lead us there. A great family memory created by fine cooking, service open and entertained, view to St Anthony unimpaired; it may no doubt become more complicated in Summer, but off season, this is a big distance from the tired social formulae of a sailing club.

We had lunch there on 8 March and the experience was enhanced by some stunning, unseasonal weather. Drinks on the terrace, in the sun, pre and post lunch was fantastic.

The menu is relatively small which reflects the freshness and quality of the food. Within the menu there was considerable variety. The sample menu on the hotel's website was an accurate reflection of the food and prices when we went.

Service was efficient without being overpowering. The waiting times were spot on - slow enough to enable one to "enjoy the experience" but not so laboured you felt you were "hanging around". The quality and presentation of the food were excellent.

Some moments in life make you want to press pause and let them last that little bit longer. This is one of them. Highly recommended.

Good for a celebration or special treat. Staff really nice, friendly and personable. We had the afternoon tea: sandwich, fresh cream scones (homemade) and pot of tea £16 per person. Because the weather was so nice we sat outside on the terrace overlooking St Mawes. When the weathers not so good you can sit in the lounge they have a fab open fire, so you can enjoy an afternoon tea in the warm.
