“Hmmm”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

We booked for a Sunday evening for three in October

Started fine but then we waited nearly 40 minutes(!) for two portions of fish and chips and a mushroomy main course. Feeble and left me in a cross mood.

General set-up nice and airy. Must be good on a nice day. If they serve you.

“A nice surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Really enjoyed a lunchtime meal with fantastic views across the beach to the sea...what a lovely spot to eat and relax.
Lovely seafood, well cooked and presented, polite service and good value for money.
A little gem!
Recommend the mackerel!

“Nice location”

Sat outside on a nice day on first day of holiday in April. Food all freshly cooked and good, we had a simple selection of fish, sausage and chips. Recommended.

“Atmoshperic location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

My husband and I enjoyed a romantic dinner at this little gem. The waitress was excellent and soon had the wine flowing while we watched the sun go down. The fish we had for dinner was also very good and the price was reasonable. All in all a top night out in St Ives.

“Don't eat before midday Monday.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013 via mobile

Up early on Monday morning to look around St. Ives on the first day of my holiday.

Came across Porthgwidden beach cafe at 11:30am... place had signs up: "Open every day for breakfast lunch and dinner" and the menu included cheesecake & pots of tea... brilliant.

Inside it's clear that the place is as set up more as a restaurant/dining rather than just a cafe. All the tables are laid with cutlery.

However, when I ordered food I got: "No, no, the kitchen is just opening so we can't serve food" said the Italian-sounding bar staff.

Disappointed. No food? Kitchen just opening??

Had my pot of tea and over ten minutes heard the same message given to other customers who also wanted food: "no, kitchen not open" and variations.

Makes me wonder why a cafe would advertise "Open every day for breakfast lunch and dinner" when this is not so. Why not show this outside alongside the menu & the "open all day" signs to avoid embarrassing passing customers: open all day, except Monday before noon whilst the kitchen is opening.
