I visited this restaurant at lunch time with my parents who had eaten there before. Lunch time specials were available for around £5 including mussels or prawns and these appeared to be good value. I plumped for half a lobster at £12.95 served cold for maximum flavor. All of our food was good and excellent value. The service was also fast and polite. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pleasant.

A second visit to the Mermaid confirmed our experience. Mouthwatering perfectly cooked food, excellent service. The wine list could be a little more comprehensive however a good selection on offer. The restaurant is suitable for couples, families and friends, a particular delight is the atmosphere and a sense of the staff and owners caring deeply about what they do.

We have visited the Mermaid last year as part of holiday to St Ives. This visit the food was not as good and was disappointing and the price was expensive in comparison to the quality of food being served - won't be visiting next year.

We were looking for a nice fish & seafood place in St Ives, and had looked at The Mermaid (when eating in The Saltwater Cafe over the road in, appropriately enough, Fish Street) last year without going in. This time we thought we would give them a go. Whilst the exterior looks a bit like a converted pub, the interior is really charming, with some nice touches such as the boards of old photographs of St Ives and the surrounding area. The tables are definitely packed in, but that wasn't a problem - the atmosphere was really nice, the service efficient and extremely friendly, and then there was the food!

My wife had Mussels as a starter (huge bowl full with a delicious lemony/herby broth) whilst I had the seared scallops - both were excellent. We followed them up with a Trio of Fish for my wife (John Dory - outstanding, Bass and Lemon Sole) whilst I had a Fillet of Hake on a Chorizo Casserole with the "famous" beer-battered cauliflower and green beans. The mains were excellent too, albeit I think the starters were the stars of the show. No idea about desserts as were both far too full to venture there.

This is a highly recommended option if you're looking for excellent fish & seafood in St Ives, which is a town crowded out with decent restaurants.
