I ate at Alfresco on spec as a lone diner and was delighted with the attentive, though not overbearing, service from the friendly and knowledgeable staff. My starter of seared scallops with pea puree, prosciutto and lemon curd was perfectly cooked and presented, although for my taste the lemon curd was an unwelcome addition being far too sweet to match the other flavours on the plate. My main of John dory, with english asparagus, lightly pickled cauliflower florets, crispy fried oyster and cider sauce was served with a side of rosemary roasted new pots and was the stand-out dish of my 3 nights in St Ives. The fish was generously portioned, the accompaniments a perfect match and all cooked and seasoned beautifully. A selection of excellent Cornish farmhouse cheeses rounded off my meal and I was the last happy customer to leave the restaurant. I’ll definitely return next time I’m in town.
