“Could not ask for more !”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

Susan and Marcus, two wonderful hosts, made our stay quite memorable. We decided at 4 in the evening to go a week's vacation and started scouring for accommodation in St Ives and by 9pm we were on our way.
Just 5 mins uphill (not too steep) from the train station and overlooking the sea from some rooms. And if you know what a BnB is, Channings will pretty much defeat that. They did not have a double room but assured that the room they would provide will suffice and it really did. Bath was clean with good shower (a rarity in BnBs).
Breakfast was really nice to set our day. The main bus station is 2 mins walk and frequent bus service connects St Ives to all other towns and attractions-Land's End, Penzance, Truro etc
There is a small bar near the reception and you can enjoy a pleasant evening with other guests after all the day's work.
Wifi was a bit shaky but I gathered that it is being worked upon. Lot of books in your room and in the bar; you can grab and spend your day at one of the 3 beaches in St Ives.
Ideal hideout which I look forward to returning !

Room Tip: Ask for a sea facing room.

Thank you for your kind words. We have now installed decent Wifi that can be accessed by more than one guest at a time, and what's more.......all over the building!

My partner and I went for a while staying at the channings was a joy we stayed from Tuesday 4th September untill Friday 7th September the room had an amazing view the it was spotlessly clean and the owners were two of the nicest people I've met in a longtime helpful to the point where I asked if they could make me a picnic and they did the drinks at the hotel were also great purely because of the range and choice and st Ives itself is an amazing place we wish we didn't have to leave

We recently spent two lovely nights at the Channings Hotel where we were celebrating being recently engaged. Susan and Marcus, the new owners, couldn't have gone out of their way more to make our stay very special. We returned to our room on one evening to find a bottle of bubbles and a card to say congratulations on our recent engagement - a really lovely gesture and one we will always remember. Breakfasts were delicious and we particularly liked the involvement of their children in the serving of breakfast whcih gave it a genuine personal/family style. The location was superb, with easy access to all the main attractions in St Ives a short walking distance away. We will be sure to return again for another great stay. Thanks for a great stay. Hollie and Edward.

Room Tip: We had a sea view attic room which was a little smaller but had amazing views over the bay so would...

Booked from Australia and took our chances. We could not have been happier with the quality, service and location just up the hill and a short walk to all of Saint Ives attractions. New owners Susan and Marcus were courteous and helpful and have plans to update the decor and feel of the B and B.We will be recommending St Ives and Channing's to all of our mates in Aussie.

Had a great 5 nights at short notice 2 wks after Susan, Marcus & their kids took over. If their other guests are treated as well & as courteously as we were then I'm sure they'll have a great future ahead of them.

The hotel feels a bit Fawlty Towers in terms of decor but I know all of that is planned for an update. Our bathroom was newer & v nice. We are intrigued to see how they improve it when we return. Everything was spotlessly clean & cosy. Marcus's hearty breakfasts kept me going most of the day & it seemed as if nothing was too much trouble. I got the feeling the other guests felt the same.

It's 5mins walk to the harbour down hill. Private parking at the rear & great sea views from the front. It's not really a hotel, more of a v nice B&B now. They were happy for us to bring our 2 Cocker Spaniels & if we'd have wanted, I think the hamster would have been welcome too!

Happy to recommend!

We have just returned from a lovely week's stay at the Channings in St Ives. Susan and Marcus were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, which is much appreciated with 3 young boys!
Our room had fabulous sea views, the breakfast was great and the hotel was clean.Only a short walk to the town and excellent beaches, and very good value for money.
We had a flat battery on our car on the day we departed and they helped us with a charger to get us going!
We hope to return soon.

Not usually my style to start a review with a grump, but.... while walking the South West Coast Path I've revisited many of my favourite West Country places from the past 30 years. Some are still great but some really do have ideas above their station - and the common thread seems to be some sort of 'celebrity thing'. Padstow has the 'Rick Stein effect', Watergate Bay with Jamie Oliver's restaurant, Salcombe with its silly property prices and C List Celebrities..... Well St Ives is heading that way thanks to the Tate and my B&B search threw up an endless list of 'Boutique Hotels' with their eco-friendly toiletries, vegan menus and £100+ a night rooms.

So....... thank goodness for places like Channings Hotel!

Everything you need for a comfortable stay, really friendly and helpful hosts, clean well-appointed rooms, off-road parking and a cracking good breakfast.

Downsides? Hardly any. It's a bit of a hike back up the hill from the town centre and you can't use the WiFi if it is being used in the hotel office.

If you want a comfortable stay with excellent hosts and at a sensible price - give the Channings a call.
