“In need of upgrade”
Reviewed June 26, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

The location of this property is super as is the view from it's balcony. It is a stone's throw from the beach. However, the flat itself is dated and in need of an upgrade. Under beds and presses were full of someone else's bags and equipment. The balcony had flower pots with dead flowers/plants, a broken rotten ladder and buckets left to one side. There was no manual with the flat so it was hard to figure out how to use the tv, washing machine etc The hoover didn't work. The flat had not been aired and smelt musty. There was damp at the sides of the back bedroom window. Overall I would describe it as 3 star in need of modernization and upgrade. It was quite expensive for the week so we thought it would be 4-5 star.

“Fantastic views and very pretty, comfortable apartment - my home from home.”

This was my fourth visit to this really pretty and comfortable flat. Everything you need for a relaxing holiday is provided. The place is always clean and bright.
Parking is a bonus, as are the magnificent views. This apartment offers the best of both worlds, with beautiful views of the sea and beach as well as the romantically lit town at night, which is only a short walk away.
The balcony is always well used by us, for breakfast in the mornings and for sitting out at night, enjoying the quiet evenings while sipping chilled wine and watching the boats and lights in the harbour.
The stroll home on the nights we eat out is lovely and takes in so many of the best parts of St Ives.
I can't wait for my next visit, hopefully in a few months time.
Thanks for another fabulous holiday. x

“Disappointing - very challenging road access and parking”
Reviewed August 16, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We know St Ives well and have stayed in an apartment across the other side of town for several years now, but were staying longer this year so wanted a property with a sea view. Porthminster View does have a good sea view, but across the car park and tennis courts which is not the view given on the web site. There were several disappointing aspects to this property. The one which troubled us most was road access. We are both experienced drivers, but access to this property down a very steep road bounded by high stone walls was not easy. Parking, on a steeply angled and very restricted area was also difficult and such was the slope that some other residents were 'chocking' their car wheels with large stones. Getting in was bad enough, but getting the car out and up the narrow access road which opens directly on to the main road on a bend with very limited visibility was bordering on the hazardous and not for the hesitant driver. Once parked, the access around the rear of propery was via a pathway which was unswept and dirty for our first week. Also the area by the property door was dirty and unswept with some planters full of what seemed to be time expired compost with some cigarette ends. Internally the apartment was clean and tidy, but overall seemed ';tired'. Some specific irritations were, only a single bedside lamp for each double bed. No 'help book' to tell you the Wi-Fi code, or what the arrangements were for recycling or rubbish bin clearance. The bathroom has a cabinet on the wall directly above the small sink, which makes it very difficult to access the taps and shave or clean your teeth in comfort. We did enjoy sitting on the veranda, but the ambiance would have been improved if there had been some live plants in the pots instead of more time expired compost. Finally the 'welcome pack' of a small jar of coffee and a bag of sugar left in the middle of the kitchen table was well below the standard we've had at our previous St Ives rental. I appreciate the road access issue is probably outside the owners control, but I was blocked going in and out on several occasions over 2 weeks, which required a lot ot close quarter manoeuvring in the car, in very confined spaces. Some clarification of the legality of the access along the front via the Pendolva Hotel would have been helpful. In summary this was not the standard of holiday apartment we were expecting for the amount we paid.

“Great location and lovely comfortable apartment”

We had a really lovely stay at Porthminster view, it was actually our first holiday as a family with our little 1 year old. Being so close to the beach and a pleasant 5 minute walk from St Ives' lovely cobbled streets was perfect. The apartment is on the first floor so we left the pram in the car which was fine for us, we have to do the same at home.

I agree with the other reviewer regarding car access it is potentially tricky, although I never had a problem. If you meet an oncoming car when driving out of the steep narrow lane to the main road you will have to back up maybe 200 - 300m to let them pass. Like I say, I was lucky and never had to do this but I was always wary of it when driving out of there. I wouldn't let that put me off though, you don't even need the car once you're there since everything is easily walk-able to from the apartment.

“Location Location”

The property is all about location and views. We found the property fairly basic but comfortable. If you have young kids be aware the oven door is extremely hot and at low level and it springs back when you open it! The drying part of the washing machine doesn't work but an air dryer is provided. Parking is on a steep slope and access is a bit hairy but that didn't cause a problem. Access to front door is round the back of the building so if you have a lot of stuff like us then you will take a while to unload the car. kitchen table is a bit dodgy (lean on it too heavily and it falls sideways).

The Internet in the flat ran at plus 10MB/s if that is important to you. We brought our Apple TV with us and it worked without issue. A real bonus. Good Quality TV in the premises as well.

If you want to play tennis contact St Ives tennis club and for £80 they will give you an out of county membership for as much tennis as you want or £10 per hour without membership.

The outside space (veranda) of the property has seating, excellent views and secure for children to mess around.

The beach is top quality and only 2 minutes walk down the hill. St Ives town centre is about 10 minutes walk and the station is also 2 minutes away.

We really enjoyed our stay in St Ives and would recommend this property.

“Lovely apartment, beautiful views but beware ... not for the feint hearted”
Reviewed September 2, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This is a lovely apartment with beautiful views but one thing omitted from the apartment description is the access to your parking space (which is just outside the apartment). After you turn right off the main road you are immediately met by a very steep one track road (which is not a one way road bizarrely) which once committed is very difficult to back out of. This may not be unusual for St Ives or a problem for a confident driver but I feel drivers should be warned so as not to be shocked as we were (we met a car coming the other way). Once at the bottom of the hill (about 150yds) you then turn left across the narrow road alongside the beach then left again and up a very steep hill to your parking space which is also on a steep incline. I am quite a confident driver and having done this once and found the alternative way out (another very narrow road along beach with a squeeze between cottages and up another steep hill) I found it not to be a problem. We had a fab holiday in a lovely apartment. Other holiday makers at apartments nearby felt the same and most left there cars parked until the end of their holiday. Saying that, if it's not going to stress you out too much then it's well worth it.
