A spider or brown crab for a tenner, very good value in my eyes, really friendly staff and loads of types of rum to choose from if that's your fancy (hic) def worth a visit

My parents, sister and I were in Cornwall for a short getaway and with the weather unpredictable, on a cool evening the most comforting thing to do was find somewhere cosy and welcoming to eat. The Rum & Crab Shack was perfect for this! I rate the place very highly for its atmospheric quality, its charming staff and their swift service. The guys who saw to us were really friendly and warm, which made all the difference. We felt truly welcome!

The menu is simplistic and delicious, with no pretentious airs and heaps of character! Come here for crab and a host of other lovely, lip-smacking seafood fit for a pirate! Who comes to Cornwall for pizza, right? Not only was the food extremely tasty, but it came in generous proportions with lots of free smiles! It was a fantastic feast indeed for we four weary and hungry travellers!

My one naggling criticism is the macaroni cheese we ordered as a side was a little bit bland. I wouldn't expect an average macaroni cheese in a harbour-side restaurant, and I think the chef ought to rework it, but as the Rum & Crab Shack is the new kid on the St Ives block I'm not complaining!! Everything else was tip-top!

Now let me tell you about the little pieces of Heaven that they serve at the Rum & Crab Shack...the Rum Baba with local Moomaiden chocolate & black cherry ice cream, and the Mississippi Mud Pie with vanilla bean ice cream! Now that's what I'm talking about! The Rum Baba's deep, dark, smoky sweetness mingling with the rich chocolate ice cream will take you on a journey into sea-shanty, rum-soaked Cornish paradise!! I'd eat that every night of my life if I could! The Mississippi Mud Pie was just as gorgeous; the tastes of lovely, aromatic caramel and delicate, fragrant vanilla bean ice cream were wonderful. As I said, little pieces of Heaven if ever I tasted them! I only wish I'd been brave and ordered one of the Shack's original rum offerings to go with my Baba...maybe next time!

So a huge thanks to all the crew at the Rum & Crab Shack for feeding us so well, and bringing the joy and pleasure of glorious food to us on that dark Cornish evening! You rock! I hope you'll do really well as the months roll by. You're sure to become a firm favourite for everyone who walks the St Ives streets!

So, we might be slightly easier to please than your average folk, but smashing up our food to then pick pieces out of our hair is all jolly entertaining after three dark and stormy cocktails! Deduce from this that eating an entire crab is fun.

This place delivers exactly what you might expect from the name, a menu of crab in various forms and permutations, plus other seafood delights such as gumbo & chowder, and an impressive stock of rum from around the globe. Local varieties of ale on tap too, but I'm afraid I didn't even glance at the wine list so can't enlighten you as to its content.

The decor is a welcoming & relaxing mix of St Ives pub and Caribbean rum shack, with just a hint of pirate ship. There is a lovely view of the harbour and comfy leather sofas in the bar to swallow you up on a rainy Cornwall afternoon.

We received a very warm welcome from the proprietors; a young chap who reminded us ever so slightly of a pirate (just call him "Cap'n"), and his twin brother who emerged from the kitchens towards the end of the evening. Needless to say we were in for the duration.

Overall we simply had a delightful time! Two thumbs up to this new St Ives establishment. I hope it brings many people as much joy as it did for us for many, many years to come.

We visited the Rum and Crab shack twice as we stayed above it. We found all the staff to be really friendly, from giving you advice on drinks to interacting with our 3 year old son.
The seafood was delicious and on the second night we tried the whole crab - very fresh and tasty.
The music was great, lovely sea views, a very relaxed atmosphere, we weren't rushed to finish like a lot of places in St Ives.
A highlight for me was the "Rum Shack Ice Cream" - the best ice cream I've ever tasted!
The best bit was the bill, very affordable, great value (which is why we went back!) We'll certainly visit again.
