“Excellent food, especially the carvery.”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

We ate here August 2013 at around 7:00 pm and the car park was full and the restaurant was busy, but the atmosphere was very good and the aroma of the food and the carvery lured us in.
We had no trouble finding a table although many were reserved - it seems that 17:00 to 19:30 is peak times for families and it did quieten down a lot after 19:00
There is a good sized beer garden and outside seating area.
My wife and I both had the carvery which, once you have ordered at he bar, you are called for by table number. This is very good as it avoids queuing at the small-ish carvery servery.
My wife had the beef and I had the pork and we were each given two quite thick slices which were very good quality and cooked medium well.
There was an excellent selection of vegetables and the cauliflower cheese was perfect - yum !.
The different food we saw other customers have all looked good as did the desserts.
I had a pint of Tribute ale which I hadn't had for years and it was nectar.
Absolutely recommend this place and its worth persevering to find a parking space - would be happy if his was my local !.

Room Tip: Get there a little later in the evening if you can to avoid the busy families period. Parking is sli...

Big group of us went to this place on a Saturday night. We'd spied it from the road and were impressed by the outside decor. Should have left it there. Worse atmosphere ever. It was a bank holiday weekend and there were about three tables full in the entire place. Incredibly overpriced food and drink, even by a Londoner's standards! It's like one massive waiting room for death. Avoid at all costs

We stayed two nights at this Inn in August 2013. When we arrived there was no obvious person to meet us just a barman and a girl folding napkins. The barman left his post to see to us and was very pleasant. Having stayed in pubs before we did not think that this was particularly a bad sign. Our accommodation in room 9 was down the end of a very long corridor which needed decorating and looked disheveled. The room was nicely decorated and clean with a large bathroom. Unfortunately the view out of the window of overflowing waste bins was not so good see picture attached. The breakfast was an excellent fry up although again no greeting and lots of guests just sitting around until the cook came out with each breakfast, even though there were other staff milling about on both mornings.. The real problem with this stay and why we would never go back was the noise late at night. On the Saturday there was music playing that we could hear in our room until around midnight and on the Sunday when we made a specific effort to stay out until closing time the 'rave' music was so bad coming from the pub below that my husband had to go and complain. This time it was 12.30 on what was now Monday morning. The pub was no longer open and the staff said 'fair enough' and turned the music off and they then continued to talk loudly until after 2am. The following day when we left no one spoke to us or explained what had been happening. So all in all a very disappointing stay for the money.

For a road side retaurant it was ok but very pricey, we ate here one evening and found the service was good but the prices tended to fluctated but that apart the staff were very pleasant and atentive but the cleanliness of the establishment left a lot to be desiredI dont agree with dogs in retautants even if they are well behaved and the great dane chained to the end of the bar was a bit too much and scared a couple of small children in our party even though it was friendly enough
Wont be eating here again

We went to the badger on Sunday night for the Calvery food was fantastic choice of beef, pork or lamb very good selection of veg there were 7 choices of veg. Nice pub but unfortunately the service let it down a bit it seemed very unorganised and had to go and find a member of staff to get a desert menu. But the food was very good and the sticky toffee pudding is fantastic.

We went here and tried the carvery in the restaurant, we were expecting something special for the price but it was average and we were a little disappointed. I had the crumble for dessert which I wouldn't recommend, it tasted very odd. My husband enjoyed the eton mess dessert. The staff were nice and friendly and the service was efficient, however I would not eat here again.

The Badger is a pretty pub with a cared-for garden and a no-frills but good value carvery, plus good dessert portions. There is a good selection of drinks, including superb local beer and cider. I was disappointed that the carvery only offered one type of potato (roasted), but otherwise it was tasty, hot and enjoyable. I would have given the whole experience four out of five instead of three had it not been for the awful mindless and pointless piped music that blasted over the PA and did its best to spoil the atmosphere. Good smiley service.
