“The Island”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

Well worth a visit if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main town.

Great to take a walk around it and stop every now and again on the number of benches to enjoy the view.

“Peaceful read”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

It was such a sunny afternoon we spent ages sitting on a bench enjoying the view, watching families enjoying the great open space. Well worth finding it and spending some time there.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

The walk around the Island is lovely. The scenery is wonderful and the grassy knoll is really nice. There are lots of benches around to stop and look out to sea from. On one side there's the surfing beach Porthmeor and on the other is the main town. We went in October and as you'd expect on a little outcrop in winter it was windy but it made the thermos of tea we took with us all the better. We were told by some locals that you can see seals here in the summer.

“Nice little jaunt - well maintained island”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

The perfect scenic walk in the bracing air to really give you an appetite for some tea, scones and clotted cream. A panoramic view of all of St Ives Beaches and interesting historical references.

“gaze out to see and ponder what lies beneath...”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

well you would have to very unromantic not to be tempted to make the gentle climb to this lovely simple little Chapel which is a replica of an earlier building which stood here peacefully for centuries until just before the first World War when some complete numbscull in the Navy who had been reading the Riddle of the Sands decided to have it blown up.Why you ask ? well he thought it might be a useful lookout or signal point for German Spies. Maybe a tad over the top but there was a lot of German interest in this rather busy spot because just over the bay was Hayle and hidden there one of the largest Dynamite factories in Europe. All good stuff to conjure with as you stride around on this bluff outcrop of rock. When I went I was lucky enough to be invited into the Coast guard House , look out point and radio station which proved remarkably interesting as below the waves and very close to the rocks lie the wrecks of many ships and boats .I was shown charts and ,even better, photographs of one ship which still has ,on its rusting deck ,railway engines which were intended for the Western Front until a German Submarine sent them all to Davy Jones's locker ! maybe that chap in Admiralty Arch wasn't so daft after all !
