Decided to stay here having looked at many hotels in Beautiful St Ives and we were not disappointed. Arrived early at 11 o'clock in the morning and we were allowed to park our car in the large car park to the rear of the hotel, although the man in the little booth on the gate did mention we were early and reluctantly gave us a car park pass and let us in but we couldn't get to our room till 2 o'clock which is fair enough (we walked down into St Ives till check in).
Check in was prompt and efficient although no offer of help with our bags and cases was forthcoming and we never saw any porters helping other guests with their luggage during our stay here, maybe its something they don't practice here.......
Anyway room itself was excellent, clean well appointed and spectacular view out to the coast and St Ives (make sure you get a west wing room!). Lovely large comfortable bed, tea making facilities, large TV etc. Hotel is set in very beautiful well manicured grounds with golf course, botanical gardens and lovely scenic walks, you can walk down into St Ives from the gardens but it is a 20 minute walk down hill and subsequently 25 min walk back uphill!
Food was excellent throughout, lovely buffet breakfast with excellent choice of cereals, fruit yoghurt etc, and full cooked breakfast if required. Staff were pleasant and well mannered and one evening we had a carvery which was also excellent.
Wi-Fi is available but NOT in any rooms, along the main corridor outside reception and Restaurants with plenty of seating, reception here was very good. Wi-Fi in rooms is definitley a option for improvement and is becoming more and more expected in modern day hotels.
We made good use of the swimming pools and leisure facilities available, indoor pool was very warm although a little crowded at times and chlorine levels seemed a little high. On one occasion walking carefully from the spa pool along the side of the main pool i nearly slipped over on the quarry style tiles, although there is signage warning of this, I strongly recommend some kind of plastic matting walkway from the spa as this would negate this problem.Changing rooms were very clean and well monitored. Outside pool was excellent with plenty of seating and lovely private setting and water temperature was very pleasant for an outdoor pool.
One issue we did have was one of our party is disabled and on return to the hotel one afternoon we did find a disabled designated parking place occupied by a non disabled driver after a slight altercation he drove off. Mentioned this to reception who seemed to recognise the problem. I think this should be policed more often with clearer markings and signage for disabled drivers only, I do realise this is a problem nationwide in hotels, supermarkets and car parks and not just at this hotel but nether the less maybe more vigilance is required by staff.
Summing up, a very pleasant stay was had and although a few issues are mentioned in my review these are relatively minor and i would thoroughly recommend this hotel in its beautiful surroundings.
