Tregenna Castle Resort
Ranked #10 of 21 Hotels in St Ives
Reviewed March 3, 2013

With two friends we stayed on the 24th 25th & 26th February 2013. Our short break was through a TravelZoo deal and was extremely good value. We asked in advance for rooms with a sea view (supplement payable) and although rooms 3 & 9 were on the lower ground floor in the main hotel, we could see the bay. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable with a generous supply of tea, coffe and milk. There was plenty of room in the bathroom and the shower was excellent. We used the gym, steam room and sauna and these facilities were perfectly adequate (our friends used the pool and said that the water temperature was a lot lower than the 29 degrees advertised). The restaurant produced quite acceptable dinners and there was quite a wide choice on the breakfast buffet menu.
The staff were unfailingly cheerful and helpful.
It is possible to walk in to St Ives from the hotel in 15 minutes but be aware that it is all uphill on the way back!

Room Tip: Our two friends and ourselves asked for rooms with sea views. We were given rooms 3 and 9 on the low...

We were treated to a weekend away by my daughter & familly for a christmas present and what a lovely weekend. The staff were extremely efficient and friendly our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was the best I have ever had away. It was set in beautiful grounds just wish the weather had been warmer.

Room Tip: Would be nice to have a sea view

Your comments regarding our breakfast buffet were passed to our Breakfast Chef, who was very pleased to read them and sends you his thanks.
Thank you for your compliments and for your review.
It may not have been warm, but at least it was dry! I hope that you will have warmer weather should you choose to visit us again.

We stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient....dinner either from the a la carte menu or daily special was truly delicious ! We agree with other reviewers that our room and bathroom were rather dated, but nonetheless clean and functional. The hotel has a magnificent vista over St. Ives Bay, an easy 20 minute walk downhill through gardens with tree ferns, a waterfall....so beautiful ! We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family & friends and will return again as soon as possible.

We have just visited for the first time on the Taste of Tregenna break after being recommended. We upgraded to a sea view in the West Wing and stayed an additional night.
We had a brilliant time and could not fault anything. The staff were friendly and courteous, we had a lovely room with an enormous and very comfortable double bed, and the meals were excellent. Can recommend the crab sandwiches and the cream teas in addition to the breakfast and evening meals in the restaurant.
For the ideal break, you do not even need to go out of the hotel and grounds which are very well maintained. Take the woodland walk down to the main road and within 10 minutes you are in St Ives, much easier than trying to take the car and find parking.
Would thoroughly recommend staying here, the hotel has character which you do not get in modern hotels and sad to see some complaints regarding the limited use for wi-fi (what happened to old fashioned conversation!)

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 62 - West Wing sea view. When sitting on the sofa at the end of the bed, we had a...

Great hotel, beautiful grounds. We had a two night stay...couldn't fault the service, all staff extremely helpful and friendly. Our room was great, although the ensuite could have done with an update. We thoroughly enjoyed having the use of the pool. Meals were delicious, especially breakfasts. Would certainly go back.

We stayed at Tregenna 22/02/2013 for 3 nights. It was initially booked as a deal for just me and my partner. However after getting engaged we thought it might be a nice place to get married,so decided to look into it. Living 300 miles away my partner obviously had worries as she had only dealt in emails and phone calls. Well as soon as we arrived all worries were dispelled, driving into the grounds our first thought was well at least there will be some good photo's. Our welcome at reception was excellent a smiling face awaited us and they were extremely helpful. We then met Will who had been helping with the wedding,he put us immediately at ease and was a star. The Hotel itself has it's faults but it is a 200 year old castle and you have to appreciate all it offers not pick at little things. The only thing I would say is it was cold and in winter months needs improving. Our room had a view of the bay was extremely clean and couldn't fault it. Our wedding day was superb and I can't thank everyone at the hotel enough, the food was superb, the 2 girls who looked after us on the day (sorry I am awful with names think Becky was 1) were brilliant. In all we had 4 rooms at the hotel for family who have all said what a fantastic time they had how much they loved the hotel and how lovely our day was. Thanks again to everyone at the hotel for a great 3 days and especailly a wedding day to remember for all the right reasons

Room Tip: I would highly recommend getting a sea view room,it really makes you appreciate the setting of this...

We have just returned from a short break via Travelzoo.
We received a prompt check in from friendly, efficient staff and found our room to be clean, comfortable and nicely decorated with good quality bedding and towels.
We were shown to our table at breakfast and offered a choice of tea or coffee which was brought to our table. There was a wide choice at the buffet area and everything we had was excellent
We didn't dine in the restaurant as like many others who stay there, we are regular visitors to St Ives and have our favourite places.
The staff were unfailingly courteous and friendly both to guests and to each other, which indicated to me a good working environment and a good team spirit.
The grounds are absolutely stunning, even in February and a great credit to those who maintain them.
The only slight problem we had was with the loo roll holder which need a small repair job. I mentioned it to a staff member and it was fixed by the time we'd done our daily workout by walking up the path from the main road.
We were obviously fortunate in that our room had been refurbished, but I gather from previous reports that others weren't so fortunate.
Yes, there are areas that need refurbishment/ renovation, but these have already been covered by other contributors and are beind addressed. However, comments about the size of soap bars ( good housekeeping sense), the colour of the table linen and the apparently "mixmatched" furniture I find rather sad.
What is important is a comfortable, clean room, good food and friendly, professional staff; and this is what we had.
This grand old lady does need a bit of a facelift, but is by no means a Fawlty Towers as described by a contributor recently.
Thank you to the staff team for a pleasant and relaxing stay and thank you to Travelzoo for a good quality value break.
