We stayed here overnight and were very please with our room which was large, bright and clean. There were three of us but there was plenty of space and the ensuite was also more than adequate. The beds were comfortable, the staff very helpful and friendly and the price was very reasonable. We had no problems with noise despite being in a room at the front and loved being able to step outside and be in the middle of this very cute town. Surrounded by shops, restaurants and 5 minutes walk from the water, we enjoyed our stay very much and can recommend the Western Hotel. We would definitely stay there again.

after our two week summer holiday we decided to stay a bit longer and managed to get one night at the western. i was a bit worried as we had stayed here a few years ago and it was dire BUT i have to say we were pleasantly surprised....lots had changed our room was big, bright and airy with a large spacious bathroom and our shower curtain had broke ( pulled down by previous occupants) so the management team came to sort it out and offered us a complimentary breakfast which was very nice indeed ....we had a great nights sleep though i do know it can get a bit rowdy outside sometimes but we didnt hear a sound ......just to mention ive been visiting st ives since 1982 and would like to say that the kettle and wink pub is( in my opinion)) one of the last remaining pubs that has real charm and character, relaxed music and atmosphere somewhat reminding me of the old st ives ....thanks ...

Great location, just a few minutes from the harbour front and by the bus stop if you park at the leisure centre car park at the top of town. Our room had a tiny cubicle shower and toilet combo, which I've only ever seen in Japan, and are genius for small spaces. The room was bright, clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Try to get one at the back, away from the road

We've just come back from the beautiful st Ives where we stayed at The Western Hotel this week.
Having read some of the other reports I have to say some are factual and some are unnecessarily critical so here is our appraisal.
The hotel is ideally situated, bang in the middle of this gorgeous town, step out of the hotel and you are in the town and a matter of a few minutes walk of the beach, quay, harbour and shops- fantastic location.
The hotel is run by a lovely couple and their staff are helpful and friendly. As with any service industry if you ask for help you will get it and every member of staff from the lady who cooks a fantastic full English breakfast to Sally who owns the hotel is a delight to meet and talk to.

The rooms are clean and tidy. Yes, tired in certain areas but remember you get what you pay for and this is St Ives. The beds are very comfortable! the tariff represents good value sub £100 . If you want to spend £125 plus per night you will get a higher standard elsewhere , quite simply you pay your money and take your choice. Car parking is difficult in the town however the car park up the hill allows you to pay for x number of days in advance, £6 ish a day.

There is music within the adjacent bar belonging to the hotel which is usually jazz, embrace it rather than see it as a problem! It doesn't go on for longer than bar opening times and walking the streets of St Ives in the evening is a pleasure with plenty of shops restaurants and bars open, before you know it you're not back at the hotel until nearly closing time.

Room Tip: If you want to go to bed early and music is an issue to you, ask for a top floor room to give you th...

After reading the reviews on here, we weren't quite sure what to expect but apart from there been no parking, we finally found a carpark about a 10min walk away up some very steep steps, we were ok with this but it would not be suitable for the elderly. The hotel itself is ok, obviously we wern't expecting great views as it's in the centre of town but the location is great and the room was clean and bright. The receptionist was lovely and walked us up to our room and advised us that there was a jazz night in the pub below the hotel. Me and my boyfriend got in about 10 and even though our room was quite high and at the far end of the hotel, the noise was ridiculous, I hate jazz at the best of times but this was unbearable, I tried to close the window outside our door in the corridor, so after dragging a seat from the other side of our room i managed to reach the window but as it is so old, it would not shut! We then put the bathroom light on hoping that the sound of the fan would drown out the sound of the music as at that stage anything seemed better! When the music finally finished, we could hear people talking for what seemed like hours, I woke up feeling tireder than before I'd slept. It's such a shame because otherwise it would be a decent place to stay.

Room Tip: Don't go when they have a live band playing.

We like the Western Hotel. The staff and Management are very welcoming and helpful. The room (6) is a good size, the bed is comfy and the shower works well. This place has a comfortable feel to it. Breakfast is good plenty of tea, toast, cereals, full English great except for the sausages which are very poor quality. The breakfast room is nicely decorated and very clean. The breakfast service is very fast and efficient. The Hotel situation is great, easy walking distance to all amenities, travelers to St Ives must be aware that there is little parking, but there is a pay car park just up the hill, we're always ok as we have family here. So the downside: we know about the possibility of noise, that's not a problem for us but the new but too thin curtains didn't keep out the bright sunshine, so we were wide awake at about 5.30 due to delivery noise then can't get back to sleep, a problem for me as we didn't get in till 1.30am. The windows need better secondary glazing and they only open a little so the room was hot and stuffy on this VERY hot weekend. The noise from buses constantly turning in the square can get irritating, but the bus service is good. Silly things: the kettle on a table nowhere near a socket, mirror on wall wrong way up so you can only see a slice of yourself, and no socket near it so you can see when drying hair. This little gem needs some money spent on it and a bit of interior design advice.

We have just returned from St Ives, we stayed at the western hotel, we were greeted by a very helpful young man who escorted us to room 16, I had rang before we arrived to enquire about a hair dryer in the room & he made sure there was one in the room, the room was quite roomy , very clean & a very comfy bed, we were at the back & found it very quite, the en suite was large & the shower was very powerfull, the staff were very friendly &nothing was to much trouble, breakfast was fantastic , we would stay here again.
